Merry Christmas Card

 

 Hey Quietfire Fans! For today's project I'm sharing with you my Merry Christmas Card. I combined a variety of A Way With Words Dies and Modern Gilding Powders which were all perfect for creating this card. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite beverage and learn how to recreate my Merry Christmas Card at home.

To start, you'll need a piece of red and green cardstock and the Merry Christmas 3 Die. Die cut the Merry word out of the red cardstock. Die cut the Christmas word out of the green cardstock.

Die cut the Flourished Candle out of a piece of white cardstock. Cut the candle off of the flourish. Apply Emboss It Ink to the flourish and sprinkle Copper Scroll Modern Gilding Powders over the entire surface. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Apply Emboss It Ink to a piece of white cardstock. Sprinkle Kells Gold Modern Gilding Powders over the entire area of ink. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. From the Peace on Earth Die, you'll need the stars. Die cut the stars twice out of the embossed paper. You'll need a total of seven stars.

Choose two pieces of Christmas patterned paper. From one piece of patterned paper, die cut a 4" Stitched Indented Rectangle out. From the other piece of patterned paper, die cut a 3 3/4" Fitted Indented Rectangle out. Ink the edges of the rectangles using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Foam square the 3 3/4" rectangle to the 4" rectangle.

Adhere the flourish 7/8" from the bottom and 5/8" from the left of the rectangle. Adhere the Merry Christmas word slightly above the flourish.

Use foam squares to adhere the stars as desired around the Merry Christmas word and flourish.

To finish the card, cut a cardbase out of white cardstock that measures 4" x 10 1/2", score at 5 1/4". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Slimline Christmas Garland Card

 I love decorating my house for Christmas but I have a love/hate relationship with my staircase.  I love the look of the garland along the staircase but putting it up and taking it down is a lot of work.  At least I have gone from twirling it around the wrought iron and banister to just using wires to have loops - way easier.  Every year I wonder if it's worth it but I'm also so picky that I don't let anyone else do it.  But as soon as the boys ask for it, I do it.  :)

Long intro into:  Look, the slimline card is perfect for a garland all the way across!  

I started off with 8.25" x 3.5" layer of white card stock.  I sponged some light green and yellow along the edges for a nice glow in the clean white center.  

 

I divided the card roughly in thirds and drew a soft loop as shown below.  For my garland, I alternated between the soft rounded sprig and then the pinecone.  They were cut with different shades of green card stock,

I added a 1/16" red mat to the layer and then trimmed off the greenery off the edges.  Using the same red, I die cut two of the bows.

For the Merry Christmas, I die cut the Merry Christmas 3 four times and glued them together.  The fourth layer I die cut out of a sheet of white card stock with a sheet of double sided adhesive on top.  I added Silver Sands Microfine Glitter over the adhesive.  A black card base turned the layer into a card.  I love how it looks in real life - so sparkly!

Definitely putting up the garlands this year!

Create A Wreath

Simply Merry Christmas

Today I'm sharing a simple yet luminous Christmas card using the new Quietfire Design Merry Christmas 3 die.  As with most of my cards using Quietfire Design dies, the card came together easily.

I started by masking off the center using washi tape - if you find one wide enough, you don't even have to measure out the rectangle.  I just laid my washi tape along the edge of the card base and sponged some yellow ink and a wee bit of orange (any would work but I used Distress Inks Spiced Marmalade and Squeezed Lemonade).

I then die cut out the Merry Christmas out of red card stock.  I shaded some of the red card stock with Copic markers because it is really hard to find the perfect shade of red!  So I've really enjoyed modifying my cardstock using Copics to just get that right shade for smaller parts.

As you can see,the "merry" is beautifully scripted and flowing which makes it hard to glue down without stretching the word.  I first added 3 more layers of red cardstock to give it some weight - it also just looks nicer that way I think.  To make sure it stays spaced the way it was intended, I used the negative portion of my die cut and laid it down  - above the Christmas that is already glued down.  I then put my layered "merry" (with bits of glue on the back) on it inside the negative space.  No worries about making it wonky that way!  I hope the picture above helps make sense of what I just wrote.  :)

I then added the branch from the Carter Bella "Thank you branch die set" that I painted in greens and flecks of gold.  A little ribbon bow completed the card.

Merry Christmas 3 dies

Playing with the Modern Gilding Powders and Christmas Dies

Diana here today with a collection of Christmas cards I made where I experimented with the new Modern Gilding Powders.  I wanted to see what they look like next to each other - as well as crank out a few cards while I'm at it.

To start, I die-cut the Christmas from the Merry Christmas 3 die set out of watercolor paper because it was thicker than my regular cardstock.  I did the same for the Cheer, love, joy and peace die.    

For the first card, I used Kell's Gold on the Christmas and Dragon Berry for the Cheer.  I heated the powder for a while and got a nice smooth surface.

For the card below, I used Burnished Silver and heated it just enough for the powder to melt.  It gave a wonderful textured look (see second photo below).

For the third card, I also used the Burnished Silver but heated it for a bit longer for the smooth finish.

On the last one, the Christmas is in Copper Scroll.  As you see, the Copper Scroll and the Kell's Gold was paired with a scrap piece of paper from the same hue.  I sponged the edges with a tan Distress Ink and Hickory Smoke on the gray backgrounds.

Here is all four together so you can see the difference.  The wreath is from an old Spellbinders Woodland Wreath set, cut with two different shades of green card stock.  I hope the comparison helps and you'll find that you need all the colors.  :)

Christmas Cheer Photo Cards

Hi Connie Nichol here today with a couple of quick cards using the new Calligraphic Christmas dies from Suzanne Cannon.  These are simply stunning dies, perfect for all sorts of quick Christmas cards, home decor and scrapbook layouts.  I love that you can often mix and match them with each other and previously released Suzanne Cannon dies.

If you've seen some of my other blog posts, you'll know I'm rather fond of creating cards that feature a 4x6 photo as a base.  It's so fast and easy!  Take any winter or Christmas photo, add a Quietfire Design die and put it onto a card base.  It can be as simple as that, or you can decorate a bit more if you have the time and desire.

These cards feature the Cheer(s) die , the Merry Christmas 3 die and the stars from the Peace on Earth die.  The photos are from Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada in February of last year, but hey, they look Christmassy.  Go check out the new Christmas collection and have fun creating!
