The Song in Your Heart - Kim Gowdy, Guest Designer

Hello, Kim here today with a card share for you. Do you every get into a creative funk? It’s like you forget how to stamp an image or cut paper despite the stash around you. We’ve all been there, I’m convinced it’s part of the creative process. What I have learned about myself, is that when this happens…I need to go back to basics.
A Friend is Someone

Today’s card share takes me back to basic techniques. One that is tried and true and makes me happy!

For my card I choose to work on a bright, white piece of CSM Superstock. I stamped my sentiment in bold, black, crisp ink right in the center of my card…there is no denying the focal point! LOVE this quote stamp from Quietfire Design [item#5570 A Friend is Someone], it is a stamp I will use often as I am lucky to surround myself with fabulous friends!

Once my focal quote was stamped down, I used 3 flower stamps from Elizabeth Craft Designs ‘Color My Flowers’ stamp set and 3 complimentary colors [yellow, orange & red]. Starting with the largest flower and lightest colour I added images to the outside edges of my card. I ended with the smallest flower and brightest colour. It adds beautiful visual interest to the card.

Here’s the thing…I could have left the card with the quote and flowers, someone would have been happy to receive it. I often find once I go back to basics and get into a groove, I am usually ready to kick it up a notch, that’s where adding the die cut flower and leaves came in. It’s an extra layer of texture and interest we all crave.

Thanks for checking out this simple card. I encourage you to go back to those first techniques you learned when you started stamping, you’ll be surprised at how much you do builds off them.

Mixed Media "Believe in you"

Hello Crafty Friends!  Happy Monday!

Did you know that there is a Suzanne Cannon Fan Group on Facebook?  The group is a friendly forum for fans to share projects (in process or complete) created using Suzanne Cannon product.  Every Sunday we have a Show Me Sunday where you can show your work area or completed projects.  Last week I shared an in process project: a bright card using water reactive inks and the "Best Thing- Believe in You" stamp.
The background was created using water reactive inks (Spectrum Noir) on water color paper.  The quote was stamped using black Finesse ink.
The frame was die cut and embossed from scrap pearlescent paper and silver ink applied along the outer edge.  The bright background was cut to size and mounted on a tent fold white card base (4.25 x 5.5).
A few flowers were adhered and the card was complete!  Super easy to make and it has a super sweet quote!

Feel free to to join the Suzanne Cannon Fan Group!  We would love to see you there!  :)

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a happy, crafty day.
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo

But First, Coffee Tag

Hey Quietfire Fans! I was busy this past weekend enjoying the long weekend here in Canada and playing with the But First, Coffee stamp set to create my But First, Coffee Tag.  Along with a variety of other Quietfire Design Stamps as well as A Way With Words stencil, they were the perfect addition to my tag. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite beverage and learn how to recreate my tag at home.

To start, you'll need a #5 Manilla Tag. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Gathered Twigs, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the tag. Spritz the ink with water. Dry the tag with a heat tool. Place the Dotty stencil overtop of the tag and dab Emboss It Ink through the stencil. Remove the stencil and sprinkle Canadian Maple Embossing Powder overtop of the stenciled image. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Crackle Background and stamp randomly onto the tag. Repeat the previous step seven more times. Distress the edges of the tag. Ink the edges of the tag using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut a 1 1/2" Dashing Rectangle out of light kraft cardstock. Die cut a 1" Dashing Rectangle out of dark kraft cardstock. Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the ring stamp and stamp randomly on the 1 1/2" dashing rectangle. Repeat the previous step four more times on the 1 1/2" dashing rectangle. Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the ring stamp and stamp randomly on the 1" dashing rectangle. Repeat the previous step two more times on the 1" dashing rectangle. Distress the edges of each dashing rectangle.Ink the edges of both dashing rectangles using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the But First, Coffee sentiment and stamp onto a piece of light kraft cardstock. Cut the sentiment down to 3/4" x 1 1/4". Distress the edges of the sentiment. Ink the edges of the sentiment using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Coffee Cup stamp and stamp onto a piece of watercolour cardstock. Colour the coffee cup using Tombow Markers 969, 977 and 847. Fussy cut the coffee cup and steam. Ink the edges of the coffee cup and steam using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Emboss It Ink to the medium Flourished Corner and stamp onto a piece of light kraft cardstock. Reapply the ink to the same medium flourish stamp and stamp onto the same piece of light kraft cardstock. Sprinkle Just Java Embossing Powder over top of the stamped images. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Fussy cut the two flourished corners out. Ink the edges of each corner using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere a flourished corner in the bottom right corner of the 1 1/2" dashing rectangle. Adhere the other flourished corner in the top left corner of the 1 1/2" dashing rectangle. Foam square the 1 1/2" dashing rectangle 1/8" from the left and 5/8" from the bottom of the tag.

Adhere the But First, Coffee sentiment 7/8" from the top of the 1" dashing rectangle, making sure the 1" dashing rectangle sits right against the But First portion of the sentiment. Adhere the 1" dashing rectangle right to the left hand edge and 3/4" from the bottom of the tag.

Foam square the coffee cup and steam to the middle of the 1" dashing rectangle. To finish off the tag, tie a piece of twine to the top of the tag.

Here are a few closeup photos of the finished But First, Coffee Tag.
