Marbled Voyage of Discovery Nail Polish Card

Hello, Connie Nichol here today.  Some of you might know I write a Frugal Scrapbooker article for Creative Scrapbooker magazine.  The topic of my article for the upcoming fall issue is recycling makeup, particularly eye shadow and nail polish.   I did a lot of experimenting with marbling paper with old nail polish.  It is an addicting technique and it makes beautiful card backgrounds.  Just add a stamped Quietfire Design quote and a bit of ribbon.

Nail polish paper marbling is very easy to do but it's a little stinky so make sure you're in a well ventilated area.  Simply put some warm water in a large flat container (use something disposable or from the dollar store that you won't use for anything else), pour in some nail polish in one or more colours and then dip a piece of paper onto the surface of the water into the nail polish.  The polish will stick to the paper.  Set aside to dry.

I tried a few different kinds of paper and my favourite was glossy photo paper.  I have a big package of Kirkland brand photo paper from Costco that I use for crafting.  Heavy cardstock or watercolour paper will work too but the colours are not as vibrant as they are on the glossy paper.

Here's an example of some the different colour combinations that I created.

The Voyage of Discovery stamped sentiment is from this set called Every Day is a Journey.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day, Connie

Supplies:  Quietfire Design stamp, Elizabeth Craft Design rectangle die, FabScraps compass charm, ribbon
