Happy Birthday Nail Polish Card

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with a simple birthday card made with die cuts that have been coloured with old nail polish. I used Elizabeth Craft Designs Happy Birthday (small) and a balloon die set.

I recently worked on an article for Creative Scrapbooker Magazine that focused on recycling old makeup, especially eye shadow and nail polish, I discovered that nail polish was a really excellent material for colouring die cuts and giving them a nice shine or sparkle. Basically, you are lacquering them, just like your fingernails.

If you don't have nice colours of old nail polish in your medicine cabinet, Dollar Tree and other dollar stores have a nice selection of bright colours.

For the title, I used a sparkly polish. This worked about the same as die cutting a piece of glitter paper!

Like your nails, two or three coats of polish is best on the die cuts for a nice smooth colourful finish.

Be sure to work in a well ventilated area because nail polish is a little smelly.

Big Balloon Shaker Card

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with shaker cards featuring the Big Balloon die from Quietfire Design. I had picked up a bunch of birthday confetti from my local dollar store, and that inspired these shaker cards. They are super simple to make.

Just use the Big Balloon die to cut out the balloon on any kind of cardstock. Dry emboss the cardstock if you wish. Glue a piece of acetate to the back of this die cut, then place dimensional foam tape all around the perimeter of the die cut piece. Add dollar store confetti, and then adhere the same sized back piece of cardstock to seal the shaker. Decorate the back piece as you wish before you stick it down - I added celebrate and small happy birthday die cut words, but you could also stamp a birthday sentiment.

Here's the ballon die - the surprise die is not included, but it would work really well in the shaker card too! Have fun experimenting with shaker cards and thanks for stopping by, Connie

Happy Birthday - Elizabeth Craft Designs June Designer Challenge.

Hey Quietfire Fans! This month's challenge over at Elizabeth Craft Designs is using the newly released hexagon dies. Which isn't a challenge as there are so many possibilities for the hexagons. By combining a variety of the A Way With Words Dies and the new Hexagons, I was able to create this pretty Happy Birthday Card.

Before I share with you how I created my card, here is some information about winning the monthly draw at Elizabeth Craft Designs. In order to be eligible for the prize, you need to answer a question. This month's question is: What is your favourite way to use Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Hexagons or Fitted Hexagons dies.

Due to some customers having issues leaving a comment each month on the Designer Challenge post for their chance to enter the give away … they are now giving customers two options to comment … the challenge blog post and the Designer Challenge post on our Facebook Page.

To start, place the 4 1/4" Stitched Hexagon die onto a piece of cream cardstock. Place the 3 3/4" Stitched Hexagon die inside the 4 1/4" Stitched Hexagon die. Run through your die cutting machine. Ink the edges of the stitched hexagon using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Choose two pieces of patterned paper from the ModaScrap: Relax in the Garden Paper pack. Die cut the 3 7/8" Fitted Hexagon out of one of the patterned papers. Die cut the 3 5/8" Stitched Hexagon out of the other patterned paper. Ink the edges of both hexagons using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From another piece of patterned paper, die cut the 4 1/2" Dashing Rectangle die out of it. Ink the edges of the rectangle using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From the Flourished Frame die, die cut the scroll piece out of cream cardstock. Die cut the scroll piece a second time out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. On the white cardstock scroll, blend Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink over the entire surface. Ink the edges of both scrolls using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut the Happy Birthday sentiment out of one of the patterned papers. Die cut the Happy Birthday sentiment a second time out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. On the white cardstock sentiment, blend Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink over the entire surface. Ink the edges of both sentiments using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

The last pieces you'll need to die cut are two of the butterflies from the Butterfly Flourish die. Die cut the small and medium butterflies out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Worn Lipstick Distress Ink over the entire surface of each butterfly. Ink the edges of both butterflies using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the 3 5/8" Stitched Hexagon to the 3 7/8" Fitted Hexagon. Adhere the 3 7/8" Fitted Hexagon to the 4 1/4" Stitched Hexagon. Foam square the 4 1/4" Stitched Hexagon to the middle of the rectangle patterned paper piece.

Adhere the cream scroll slightly overtop of the cracked pistachio scroll so that you can see part of the cracked pistachio colour. Foam square the scroll at the bottom of the hexagons. Foam square the small butterfly to the top right corner of the stitched hexagon. Adhere the medium butterfly to the left side of the scroll.

Adhere the navy Happy Birthday sentiment slightly overtop of the patterned paper Happy Birthday sentiment so that you can see part of the patterned paper Happy Birthday. Foam square the Happy Birthday Sentiment to the middle of the stitched hexagon.
