Autumn Is Lovely

Happy  2nd Day of Autumn!!!  It's Wanda with you today sharing an Autumn card.  Our temperatures here in Southern Iowa are even feeling fallish.  I'm so glad there are not supposed to be any "hot" days this week and hopefully they'll stay away but not become winter too quickly.  

I cut a piece of Mixed Media Cardstock (Ranger Ink) to 5" square and worked up a Distress Oxide (Wild Honey, Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon) background onto it.  Put inks on craft sheet, spray with water, press in paper, drip some water on paper while drying, lightly tap paper into left over ink to create droplets, dry adding more drips of water as you dry.

I pressed the paper in the ink for the large areas of color just wiggling the paper a little so the colors stayed in their areas.  For the droplets of color I turned the paper to add those over different areas. 

After determining where I wanted the quote to go I cut a window in my background large enough for the quote to show through.  

The quote I used is from the new Autumn Collection.  I stamped it onto a piece of Mixed Media Cardstock large enough to fit behind the oval.  I inked the stamp with both Oxide Ink colors for a nice blend.

On a scrap large enough to die cut the word, Autumn (Four Season Die Set), I worked up a background with Distress Oxide Ink (Vintage Photo, Tea Dye).  After drying I sponged Distress Ink Picked Raspberry to the center. 

After die cutting the word and setting it on my background, I thought it wasn't dark enough.  I sponged Distress Ink Ground Espresso over the word.  You can't really tell the original colors but there is variation to the color that I really like.

The Crackle Background was stamped around the edges with Distress Oxide Ground Espresso.  Later I also inked the edges.

I die cut the leaves from Mixed Media Cardstock.

The leaves were colored with Distress Inks (Ranger Ink) by putting the ink on a craft sheet, spraying with water, and dipping the leaves into the ink.

Once dry, details were added to the leaves using Distress Ink (Ranger Ink) and Susan's Garden Tools and Leaf Pad (Elizabeth Craft Designs).

Ok, full disclosure :-)  When putting things together I got a little smudge of ink on the quote panel.  To hide that I spritzed with Distress Markers.  I think it looks great and I'm glad I needed to do something!!!

With every leaf a miracle or "Emboss Everything"

Hi, there!  Fall is definitely in the air though it's not cool enough for the changing of the colors.  That is my absolute favorite thing about falls - besides sweaters - and hot drinks - and the dying of bugs - I like a lot of things about fall!  

This is the about the only time I reach for my oranges and browns - probably the least of my favorite colors.  But they are just beautiful and perfect for autumn inspired cards.

My first step in making the card above was to clear emboss the grid lines on black cardstock.  I then went back and colored in some squares with an embossing pen - it gives the card texture but oh-so-subtle.  I love the shiny black on black look.

The little leaves were die cut with a watercolor scrap I scribbled with waterbrush markers and die cut (Impression Obsession Little Leaves) and I also added a layer of ultra thick embossing powder.

The quote was white embossed... just changed my title to include "Emboss Everything" - didn't realize how much I did that until I wrote up this description! Lol!

Be Brave - Something Wicked - Halloween Witch Easel card

 

Suzanne came out with 6 new stamps sets and some single stamps and they are all fabulous. Since it's my urn on the Quietfire Creations blog this week, I thought I'd something for Halloween BIG GRIN.

I'm using an A Way With Words dies  "Brave, Bold, Be Yourself" 4pce set from Elizabeth Craft Designs, also available on Quietfire Design HERE

I'm also using one of the newest quote/sentiment Design Element stamp sets from Quietfire Design. ("Something Wicked" 6pce set) 

Cut my card structure to 10"h x 7"w. Scored and folded my pumpkin toned cardstock to create my easel structure, scoring at 2.5" and 5" along the 10"length. This is the basic structure. Painted the upper 2.5" area with purple to match my witch design.  See below for structure diagram and printable line drawing of witch.
Outlined my design with a black marker. Painted my pumpkin and witch with watercolors.

Stamped the "Boo" using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed.

Die cut the "Be Brave" from white cardstock, inked with Versafine "Toffee" and embossed with Emerald Creek "Mirror Gold" embossing powder.

On the floor: Stamped the quote using the black on the pumpkin cardstock, clear embossed. Die cut with Elizabeth Craft Designs "Stitched Rectangles" die set. Sponged some purple around the edges. Adhered to floor with 3D foam tape to act as my stopper.

Stamped the bats with the black.

Stamped the cat with the black, clear embossed and fussy cut it out, leaving a piece below the cat to fold and act as another stopper. Adhered to floor.

Tied a multi loop purple narrow ribbon bow. 
 

 

The Real Voyage

Hello on this beautiful Tuesday!!!  I hope you are having a good week!!

Today I'm sharing a journal card with you.  I intend to make a bunch of these 4" x 6" cards and then bind them into a book.  

For the background I started by gluing part of a world map from an old atlas onto a 4" x 6" piece of watercolor paper.  I lightly brayered paint (Fresco Finish Sherbet, Mermaid, Teresa Green) over the paper being sure not to cover everything up.  Stenciling was done with the same colors of paint.  After being sure the paint was completely dry, the quote was stamped with Archival Ink Jet Black using the stamp platform so I could stamp a few times to get a nice, dark quote.  The Grid Background was stamped with Archival Ink Peat Moss along all 4 edges.  Next came a bit more stenciling to help blend in the breaks in the grid stamping.  I die cut the Flourished Oval Frame and Butterfly from white cardstock.  The butterfly was embossed with Baked Texture Ancient Amber embossing powder.  The frame as well as around the edges of the card are embossed with Baked Texture Patina Oxide embossing powder.

"Autumn the year's last, loveliest smile"- New Release stamps!

 Hello Crafty Friends!

Kathy Jo popping in today to share a card created using two newly released stamp sets from Quietfire Design:  Autumn the year's last from the Autumn Collection stamp set

and the Grid Background stamp

Card Instructions:

1. Create 4.25 x 5.5 tent fold card using Kraft card stock.  Mat and mount white card stock to card base.  Set aside.
2. Use either Versamark or white pigment ink to stamp Grid Background.  Emboss using white embossing powder.  
3. Randomly apply Distress Inks in Scattered Straw, Orange Marmalade, Festive Berries and Mowed Lawn to background.  Cut background to size and mount to card front.
4. Use black archival ink to stamp quote onto white card stock.  Die cut quote and leave die cut in die.  Apply Mowed Lawn along inside edges.  
   
5. Remove Die cut from die and mount to card front using double sided adhesive tape.
6. Create bow from twine and mount to die cut using liquid adhesive.
7. Decorate inside as desired.

Make a Wish with alcohol geode background

Have you seen those beautiful geode birthday cake?  That was my inspiration for the Make A Wish card.  I played around with my alcohol inks, using a brush to make the colors go in an arch.  I added some silver and gold mixative to the Yupo paper.  

After the background was finished, it was quite vibrant and the Make A Wish diecut got overshadowed by all the colors and lines, even after I added a black shadow to the die cut.  So I decided to add a layer of vellum - it softens the background but you can still see it and it make the sentiment easier to see.  

I only added glue behind the lettering and the frosted dots to keep the vellum in place.

Every Leaf Speaks Bliss to Me Tag

Hey Quietfire Fans, Happy Labour Day Long Weekend! I'm excited to be on the blog today sharing my Every Leaf Speaks Bliss to Me Tag. The air is starting to feel crisp here on Vancouver Island and it's definitely getting me into the mood for Fall to arrive. With the thought of Fall in mind, I set off to create my mixed media fall themed tag. To create my tag I used a variety of Quietfire Design Stamps. Grab a cup of your favourite summer beverage and learn how to recreate my Every Leaf Speaks Bliss to Me Tag at home. 

To start, you'll need a tag that measures 3 1/8" x 6 1/4". Cover the tag in bookpage.

Place a Woodgrain stencil overtop of the tag. Using a palette knife, apply texture paste through the stencil randomly onto the tag. Once the texture paste has dried, apply a coat of White Gesso to the tag.

Using a blending tool with foam, blend Fossilized Amber, Fired Brick, Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade over the entire surface of the tag. Spritz the tag with water. Dry the tag with a heat tool. Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Crackle Background Stamp and randomly stamp onto the tag. Apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Dotted Harlequin Background stamp and randomly stamp onto the tag. 

Place a letter stencil onto the tag and use a blending tool with foam to blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink through the stencil on random areas of the tag. Distress the edges of the tag. Ink the edges of the tag using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut a 2 1/2" Stitched Oval out of Mixed Media Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Fired Brick, Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Ink over the oval. Spritz the oval with water. Dry the oval with a heat tool. Apply Emboss It Ink to the "Every Leaf Speaks" saying and stamp onto the oval. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder overtop of the saying. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Distress the edges of the oval. Ink the edges of the oval using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Get a piece of 5"x7" Yupo Paper out. On one half of the paper, blend Oregano, Terra Cotta and Red Pepper Alcohol Ink. On the other half of the paper, blend Red Pepper, Valencia, Meadow and Espresso Alcohol Ink. Using the leaf stamps from the Leaves stamp set, apply Alcohol Lift Ink to each leaf and stamp onto the alcohol inked paper. Continue stamping the leaves until you have two large maple leaves, two small maple leaves, three acorn leaves and two other leaves. Fussy cut the leaves out.

Foam square the sentiment oval to the middle of the tag.

Adhere the a few leaves onto the oval and adhere the rest of the leaves around the oval.

To finish off the tag, add a piece of seam binding ribbon through the top of the tag.
