Trick or Treat Tag

Hey Quietfire Fans! Halloween is only 21 days away and I'm excited to be back on the blog as I've created this spooky Trick or Treat Tag. By combining a variety of stamps as well as dies from A Way With Words, they were the perfect for my tag. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite fall beverage and learn how to recreate my tag at home.

To start, you'll need the Something Wicked stamp set. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Trick or Treat sentiment and stamp onto a piece of white cardstock. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the tree and stamp onto the same piece of white cardstock. Reapply ink to the tree and stamp again on the same piece of white cardstock. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Bat stamp and stamp onto the same piece of white cardstock. You'll need to repeat the previous step three more times. Fussy cut the trees, sentiment and seven trees out. Ink the edges of the trees, sentiment and seven trees using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Next, you'll need a #8 Distress Tag. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Carved Pumpkin, Twisted Citron and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink. Spritz the tag with water. Dry the tag with a heat tool.

Apply Emboss It Ink to the Leafy Acanthus Background stamp and stamp on the right hand side of the tag. Sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder overtop of the stamped image. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Apply Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink to the Crackle Background stamp and stamp randomly on the tag. Reapply ink to the stamp as needed. Apply Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink to the Crackle Background stamp and stamp randomly on the tag. Dry the tag.

The tag was missing something, so I applied Emboss It Ink to the Leafy Acanthus Background and stamp randomly on the edges of the tag. Sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder over top of the stamped image. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Die cut a 2 1/2" Stitched Oval out of White Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Carved Pumpkin and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the oval. Spritz the oval with water. Dry the oval with a heat tool. Apply Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink to the Crackle Background stamp and stamp randomly on the oval. Reapply ink to the stamp as needed. Apply Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink to the Crackle Background stamp and stamp randomly on the oval. Dry the oval.

Die cut the Flourished Oval Frame out of white cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the frame and sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Distress the edges of the tag and oval. Ink the edges of the tag and oval using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the Flourished Frame to the oval. Use foam squares to adhere the oval to the middle of the tag.

Adhere one tree to the top right side of the oval. Adhere the other tree to the bottom left side of the oval. Foam square the Trick or Treat sentiment to the middle of the tag.

Adhere the seven bats as desired onto the tag. To finish the tag, tie a piece of black twine to the top of the tag.

Here are a few closeup photos of the finished tag.

Something Wicked Halloween Card

Halloween Card / Quietfire Design Grid background / Quietfire Design Something Wicked stamp set/ card design by Kim Gowdy

Good Morning! Kim here with my first Halloween card on the Quietfire Creations blog! Now that autumn is officially here, it is NOT too early to share. Being an October ‘baby’, I have a special love of the season and am always drawn into autumn and Halloween stamps, papers & colours...they call my name while I sleep!

I started my card by stamping the Grid stamp to the lower 2/3 of my cardstock. It has a somewhat distressed look to it as I blotted off some ink with a baby wipe before placing on my paper. I punched out a circle from a Post-it note, and placed it where I wanted my moon to be. (if you leave the sticky part of Post-it note as part of your punched circle you do not required temporary adhesive)

Using multiple colours of Distress Oxide inks I layered up my inks to create the evening sky. Once I was happy with the sky, I removed the Post-it note mask and inked up my moon with the yellow. At this point I am not concerned with my yellow ink extending into the sky.

I inked up my stamps using Clearsnap Top Boss; any clear embossing ink will work, and sprinkled some Modern Gilding Powder in Gothic Black over top and heat set. It’s always a good idea to remove static from your card before embossing so the powder sticks only to the stamped image. I use an Embossing Buddy that I have had for years, but there are other options such as a Swiffer pad or Fleecy sheet that are supposed to work as well!

If you have not heard about Quietfire design’s Modern Gilding Powders...check them out! They are amazing, fine powders ready to add shine, dimension and interest to your die cuts and stamped images. There are six amazing colours and they are wonderful!

I finished up my card by adding some ribbon, sequin stars and of course a card base. I also added a quick dot of yellow to the eyes using my Dylusions paint pen. Now to decide which ghoul to send it to!

Boo Treat Box

Hey Quietfire Fans! Halloween is only 37 days away and I'm thrilled to be back on the blog as I've been busy in my craft room creating this spooky Boo Treat Box. By combining a variety of stamps as well as dies from A Way With Words, they were the perfect for my treat box. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite fall beverage and learn how to recreate my treat box at home.

To start, apply Emboss It Ink to the Bat stamp from the Something Wicked stamp set and stamp onto a piece of white cardstock. Reapply ink to the bat stamp and stamp three more times on the white cardstock piece. Sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder over top of the stamped bats. Stamp off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Fussy cut five of the bats out. Ink the edges of the bats using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Boo sentiment from the Something Wicked stamp set and stamp onto a piece of white cardstock. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Tree stamp from the Something Wicked stamp set and stamp onto the same piece of white cardstock. Fussy cut the Boo sentiment and tree out. Ink the edges of the sentiment and tree using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut the 1 1/8" Diagonal Stitched Fishtail out of a piece of white cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the Leafy Acanthus Background stamp and stamp onto the fishtail. Sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder overtop of the fishtail. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Cut the fishtail down to 3 1/4". Distress the edges of the fishtail. Ink the edges of the fishtail using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Choose some Halloween patterned paper to cut the Gable Box out of.

From some coordinating Halloween paper, cut out a 1 3/4" Stitched Square. Distress the edges of the square. Ink the edges of the square using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From some coordinating Halloween paper, cut out a 1 1/2" Stitched Indented Square. Distress the edges of the square. Ink the edges of the square using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Use adhesive to adhere your gable box together. Ink the edges of the box using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the stitched square to the fishtail. Foam square the indented square to the stitched square on an angle.

Adhere the tree to the right hand side of the indented square. Use foam squares to adhere the Boo sentiment to the left of the tree.

Adhere three of the bats around the tree and sentiment.

Use a clothespin to attached the Boo fishtail to the gable box. Adhere the other two bats as desired on the gable box around the Boo fishtail.

Here are a few closeup photos of the finished treat box.

"Something Wicked this way comes" Halloween card

Hello Crafty Friends!

Kathy Jo here sharing a card that is perfect for a Halloween friend.  The focus of the card is the cool calligraphy stamp, "Something wicked" from the Something Wicked 2018 stamp set:
Something Wicked 2018, Set of 6 Stamps - Mounted
It is an awesome set of stamps from the wicked tree to the wicked cat to Something Wicked quote.
The stamps can easily combine with Halloween-y type papers, layered simply and hocus pocus!  A cool and creepy Halloween card is completed.  That is exactly what I did with this card:

  1. Create a top fold card using black card stock.
  2. Cut and mat wood grain paper to card base.
  3. Die cut fish net die from gold card stock and mount to card front.  (I just happened to have this in my scrap paper bin and decided to use it.  What would have also worked was a coordinating piece of patterned paper torn and the top and bottom and then adhered to the front.)
  4. Cut two squares of patterned paper- ensuring one is light colored.
  5. Stamp quote onto light colored paper using black archival ink.
  6. Mount patterned paper and ribbon on the card front.
  7. Decorate inside as desired.

It was easy peasy to make and I really like the results.  I hope you do, too!

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a happy, crafty day.
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Something Wicked Art Journal Page

Hey Quietfire Fans! I'm thrilled to be back on the blog today sharing with you my Something Wicked Art Journal Page which features a variety of Quietfire Stamps. Grab a cup of your favourite fall beverage and learn how to recreate my art journal page at home.

To start, choose a page in your art journal. Rip out a couple of dictionary pages from a dictionary. Randomly tear them up. Apply Matte medium to the art journal page and adhere the ripped up dictionary pages to the page. Apply a coat of matte medium over top of the dictionary pages. If needed, dry with a heat tool.

Cut three pieces of cheesecloth in varying sizes. Adhere one piece of cheesecloth in the top left corner using matte medium. Adhere the second piece of cheesecloth in the bottom right hand corner using matte medium. Adhere the third piece of cheesecloth to the middle of the page. Let the matte medium dry. With the medium dry, place the bricked stencil in the top left corner around where the cheesecloth is. Using your platte knife, put Texture Paste Opaque Matte through the stencil. Repeat this twice more where the other cheesecloth is. Place the bricked stencil once more on the left hand side of the page as desired.  Using your platte knife, put Texture Paste Opaque Matte through the stencil. Repeat this one more time but this time on the top right side of the page.

Once the texture paste has dried, apply a coat of white gesso to the entire page.

Sprinkle Black Forest Black (Lindy's Stamp Gang), Cuckoo Clock Cardinal (Lindy's Stamp Gang) and Orange (Magenta Nuance) powders in the bottom right corner, top left corner and the middle part of the page where the cheese cloth is. With the powder down, spritz with water. Set the page aside so that it can dry.

Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Crackle Background stamp and randomly stamp onto your art journal page as desired. Reapply ink as many times as needed. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Dotted Harlequin Background stamp and randomly stamp onto your art journal page as desired. Reapply ink as many times as needed. Using a Black Soot Distress Crayon, rub it along the edges of your page with your finger.

Die cut a 3 1/4" stitched circle out of white cardstock. Place the Harlequin stencil overtop of the circle. Use a blending tool with foam to blend Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink through the stencil. Apply Emboss It Ink to the Something Wicked stamp and stamp onto the circle. Sprinkle Midnight Black Embossing Powder overtop of the sentiment. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Distress the edges of the circle. Ink the edges of the circle using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut a creepy tree out of black cardstock.

Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Boo stamp from the Something Wicked 2018 Stamp set. Stamp the boo sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock. Fussy cut the sentiment out. Ink the edges of the sentiment using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Emboss It Ink to the cat stamp from the Something Wicked 2018 stamp set. Stamp onto a piece of white cardstock. Sprinkle Midnight Black embossing powder over top of the cat. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Fussy cut the cat out. Ink the edges of the cat using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Emboss It Ink to the bat stamp from the Something Wicked 2018 stamp set. Stamp onto a piece of white cardstock. Repeat the previous step ten more times. Sprinkle Midnight Black embossing powder over top of the bats. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Fussy cut all the bats out. Ink the edges of all the bats using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Foam square the creepy tree 1 1/4" from the right and 4 1/4" from the bottom of the page. Foam square the Something Wicked circle slightly to the left of the tree. The branches will hang over top of the circle. Adhere three of the bats around the Something Wicked sentiment.

In the bottom right hand corner of the page, foam square the boo sentiment and the cat to the right of the Boo. Adhere three bats around the Boo.

In the top left hand corner of the page, adhere the last five bats.

To finish off the art journal page, paint on Soft Gloss Gel in the top left corner, bottom right corner and in the middle where the cheesecloth is. Sprinkle Micro Beads in Black over top of the gel. Set your page aside to allow for the gel to dry.

Here are a few close up's of my Something Wicked Art Journal Page.

Thanks so much for joining me today and taking a look at my project! I hope that I've inspired you to want to recreate my art journal page at home.
