Elizabeth Craft Designs November Designer Challenge

Flowers and foliage can play a big part in our Christmas decorating. This month we were challenged to create create a card or project that features either flowers and/or foliage.

I've been wanting to make some of Susan Tierney-Cockburn's poinsettias and I discovered her Garden Notes Small Poinsettia fit beautifully on the side of my Gable Box! Happy dance!

Here is how this sweet gift box was made.

Supplies:

A Way With Words Gable Box  Quiefire | ECD

A Way With Words Flourished Christmas Minis   Quiefire | ECD

Garden Notes Small Poinsettia  ECD

Garden Notes Ivy Vine   ECD

Sprig With Berries  ECD
Susan's Garden 4 piece All Metal Tool Set  ECD

White cardstock

Gold foil cardstock

Pale pink cardstock

Green cardstock - three shades

Ranger Distress Ink - Worn Lipstick and Peeled Paint

Ranger Ink Blending Tool

Instructions:

1. Die cut the gable box from pale green cardstock.  Die cut ivy, pine sprig and one set of Poinsettia leaves from other shades of green. Die cut the Poinsettia and flourished deer from pale pink cardstock.  Sponge the edges of the green cardstock diecuts with Peeled Paint and the edges of the pink Poinsettia leaves with Worn Lipstick.
2. Form the Small Poinsettia following Susan Tierney-Cockburn's video tutorial.
3. Shape the ivy leaves in a similar manner to the Poinsettia leaves.
4. Adhere the elements to the Gable Box as shown.
5. Admire!

Video Tutorial- Watercolor Poinsettia background

Hello Crafty Friends!

Don't you just love trying out new techniques?  Like creating a beautiful, yet easy to make, watercolor poinsettia background?  Or learning some new tricks to mount vellum- without seeing the adhesive through the vellum?  Or a simple way to adhere paper in a specific location with less fuss or messing up?  Well, perhaps today's tutorial video will provide those tips and tricks for you!  And, you get to create an oh-so-lovely Merry Christmas card.

This card is created using the newly released Merry Christmas die and Poinsettia stamp...a perfect festive duo!

Sanded Embossing; May Your Longest List This Christmas

Happy Monday to You!!!  I hope you had a good weekend!!  It's Wanda here today to share an easy Christmas card.  Be sure to click on the pictures to bring them up larger.  

I'm using Quietfire's fabulous stamp - May Your Longest List This Christmas.  It is stamped onto cream card using Archival Ink Potting Soil and then die cut with a Stitched Square cutting die (Tim Holtz/Sizzix).  The edges of the square are sponged with White Fire Fresco Finish Paint (PaperArtsy).  The square is wrapped with Craft Thread (Tim Holtz/Eclectic Elements) that I've tied a couple of bells (Tim Holtz/Idea-ology) onto.

The background is super easy.  Cut Kraft Core paper (Tim Holtz/Core'dinations) to fit the Poinsettia Embossing Folder (Tim Holtz/Sizzix).  Emboss the panel.  Sand the paper to expose some of that Kraft Core and to bring out the poinsettia more.  Die cut the bottom left corner with the Poinsettia Mixed Media die (Tim Holtz/Sizzix).  Attach this panel to a cream colored panel leaving a small edge.  Splatter with White Fire paint thinned with water and then sponge White Fire around the edge. 

Onto a folded cream card, using double stick tape, attach a piece of Kraft Core Metallic Gold that you've distressed the edges on. Attach the background panel using foam tape.  Attach the quote panel using foam tape.  You now have a beautiful, elegant Christmas card!!!

Die Cuts on a Gel Plate; All Hearts Come Home For Christmas; Calligraphic Elements 1

Hi There!!!  It's Wanda here today with a Christmas card to share.

I hadn't had my gel plate out in awhile and could hear it calling my name, lol.  Besides it gives us another wonderful way to use die cuts!!  I had already decided I was going to use the new QF stamp, All Hearts Come Home, and that helped me choose a die cut (Calligraphic Elements 1 heart)  to use as a mask in printing.  

I brayered the 6" x 6" plate with green paints.

I Will Write Peace

It’s Suzanne today with a very delicate looking card. White for purity.

I’ve wanted to letter this quote for years and it finally happened.  The author of the quote is Sadako Sasaki who was a toddler living in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb fell.  Although she and most of her family escaped, she was diagnosed with leukemia a decade later.

There is an old Japanese legend which says if you fold 1000 origami cranes, you will be granted a wish.  When Sadako learned of it, she began folding cranes.  She passed away in October 1955 at the age of 12.

Sadako’s classmates raised money to build a memorial dedicated to her and other children who were victims of the bomb.  In 1958 a statute was unveiled in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. It is Sadako holding a golden crane with a plaque reading:  “This is our cry.  This is our prayer. Peace in the world.”

To make this card you will need:

Instructions:

1.       Fold a 7 x 5” tent fold card from white cardstock.

2.       Die cut Peace once from white cardstock and once from gray cardstock. Adhere the gray diecut behind the white diecut, slightly offset to create a dropshadow effect.

3.       Cut a rectangular panel measuring 5.5 x 3.5” from white cardstock and a mat 1/8” larger all around from gray cardstock. Adhere together.

4.       Stamp sentiment on white rectangular panel on the right as shown.

5.       Create Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Poinsettias from white by following her video tutorial HERE and adhere to the stamped panel.

6.       Adhere the Peace diecut to the white panel.  Use foam adhesive to adhere the panel to the card front.
