Queen of Everything - Judi Kauffman, Guest Designer

Thank you for inviting me back as today’s guest designer, Suzanne! It gave me a chance to play with your fabulous new Queen of Everything stamp set and the Leafy Acanthus Background. (I didn’t experiment with the flourished heart stamp from the set this time, just the five with words.)

Leafy Acanthus Background - Mounted  Queen of Everything, Set of 6 Stamps - Mounted

For experienced cardmakers: I think looking at the project photos and supply list will tell you everything you need to know. For new cardmakers: I’m providing a step-by-step tutorial to ensure your success!

For all: I hope you have fun with this project and will vary the colors, switch things around, and make cards that are uniquely your own.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Take the four queens out of a deck of playing cards.
2. Choose a color palette that goes with the playing cards. Gather assorted solid color cardstock, glittered papers, large adhesive-backed gems, faux watch faces, and other embellishments of choice that are within that palette.
3. Stamp larger pieces of cardstock with the Leafy Acanthus Background. Stamp smaller pieces with the words.

4. Using the photos for layout ideas, tear, cut, layer, and adhere all stamped pieces.

5. Add the embellishments to the card fronts.

6. Optional: Die cut a sparky ‘Romantic Corner’ from Black Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz to accent the upper corner of a 6” square card. (Reminder – Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube tutorial if you are new to die cutting Shimmer Sheetz.)

MORE IDEAS

Instead of a full size playing card, find a mini deck so you can vary the size of the card, or make tags and Artist Trading Cards.
Stamp in your art journal!

Instead of a real playing card, use a rubber stamp or embossing folder. That way you can make as many as you want and don’t have to stop at four.

Incorporate a photo of someone who would like to be Queen of….Everything, way too much, the last minute, or hearts (Patti, this project has your name all over it!). Fussy cut the face and glue it to the playing card, or simply use a 2.5” x 3.5” photo and skip the playing card.

Or perhaps the queen in your life is your cat or dog (Bree and Ulla, I’m talking about you two, my favorite poodles!). Use photos, rubber stamps – as shown, or freehand drawings.

May 2017 New Stamps!

Welcome to the May 2017 Quietfire rubber stamp release. There are eight new stamp sets to play with! (Wow, 8!!)
Where to start….?
I absolutely love sayings with double meanings.  I guess that’s why the two music stamps are my favourite!  The Music in my Heart sentiment was sent to me by Karen S (I’ll be sending you a complimentary stamp Karen!)  and is such a beautiful sentiment.  It’s perfect for a sympathy card.  Let me know what you'd use it for!

The Music in my Heart

The other music stamp saying is from Design Team member Connie Nichol.  Whether you’re talking about music or comfortable companionship with a friend, Moments of Silence applies.

Moments of Silence

The Leafy Acanthus Background is from an illustration I did years ago in the William Morris style.  Use it with a light coloured stamp ink for a subtle effect.  I think the quiet floral background combines beautifully with the “stillness” of the The Greatest Revelation.  Makes you pause and think.

Thanks to a big nudge from Cheryl A., the Queen of Everything, which was sold out, has been resurrected. It’s a bit different, but the sentiment is still as strong as ever!  Cheryl, I’ll be sending you a complimentary set.

Queen of Everything

This new Modern Calligraphy style works well with whimsical sayings, so here is a really fun set of stamps.  If you have the Wishing You A die set, then you can combine it with Wishing You Whimsy perfectly!

Wishing You Whimsy

And last but not least, for those who like to doodle and colour there are two new sets of Fill 'er Up Caps:  DAD and MUM
Both these sets only have two letters, as one is repeated.  If you already have our JOY or LOVE set, then it's easy to make MOM
This brings our total of Fill 'er Up Letters to 11....  ADEJLMOUVY and T is part of the Thanks - Fill 'er Up set.  If you're feeling adventurous, flip the M upside-down for W and the U upside-down for N!  That takes us to 13 letters - half way there! Give it some time and we'll have the whole alphabet!

DAD

MUM

And that's it for now! Have fun and happy creating!

Laugh Quite A Lot

Hi!!  I'ts Wanda here today to share a card using the Laugh die and one of the stamps from the Queen of Everything Set of 10.  To laugh is good medicine so we ought to laugh quite a lot.

The directions --

1.  Place Flower Stencil over piece of watercolor paper, sponge Matte Medium through Stencil, remove Stencil, clean Stencil, dry paper.

2.  Spray paper with color, blot off excess color with a paper towel and dry.  The matte medium resists the color leaving the flowers lighter.

3.  Cut paper with Stitched Rectangles Die (next to largest die), ink edges with Versamark and emboss with Gold Powder.

4.  Cut Soft Finish Cardstock with largest Stitched Rectangle, ink edges with Versamark and emboss with Gold Powder.

5.  Attach background to white layer and then to orange cardstock.

6.  Cut Laugh from Soft Finish Cardstock and from orange cardstock, layer together and glue to card.

7.  Stamp "quite a lot" with black ink.
8.  Die cut Ribbons from Soft Finish Cardstock and orange cardstock as shown, place Glitter Sticker Circles as shown, weave Ribbons together and glue to card.
9.  Cut Flower from orange cardstock, darken center with a marker, ink edges with Versamark and emboss with Gold, add Gold Gel Pen details to petals and sticker to center, shape petals and glue flower to card.
