Friendship isn't a big thing....Frame

Hello everyone,
Yvonne here sharing a project with a framed Quietfire Design quote about how valuable Friendship is...
For my project I used the gorgeous Quietfire Design stamp "Friendship isn't a big thing".

The frame is really easy to make....let's get started!

First glue a piece of (distressed) patterned paper onto a square canvas.
Then stamp a sentiment upon white cardstock and then trim the cardstock to fit a little photo frame.
Make sure the stamepd quote is centered.
Adhere a strip of self-adhesive pearls into the frame and then glue the photo frame onto the canvas.
Die-cut some borders from gold cardstock and glue around the photo frame.
Adhere some mulberry flowers, leaves and stamens and finish the project by adding (handcut with scissors) washi tape -coins.
Voila...a special frame to give to a special friend!

Friendship mini book

Hi Friends and welcome to the Quietfire blog today.  I have a pretty little mini card book to share that i did using a fun piece of watercolor paper that i had in my stash.

Sometimes you just want to tuck in a little something with your gift with a wonderful message to tell the receiver how much you care about them--- so i had this idea to create a little mini card using a book die i had from Becca Feeken.  I used a piece of watercolor paper and the die to cut this design on the outside and layered another piece under the top layer to make the colors pop.  

Then i cut the inside in the yellow part of the paper that you see below.  The stamp that i picked is called "Friendship isn't a big thing".  It was the perfect size and the perfect sentiment to fit inside my mini book.  And then all i had to do was decorate the outside with a pretty flower and some twine.  It's perfect and it went together so quick.

Your friendship means so much

I think one of my most favorite stamps to have on hand and to make up is a card for a friend. Quietfire Design has so many gorgeous ones and sometimes it's really hard to pick a favorite but todays card is really special.

I love this stamp because it has the most gorgeous swirls and curls and really does the sentiment justice.  I chose a soft palette of aqua and pale ivory cardstock to make my card and layered it using a Becca Feeken die that i had in my stash.  To add a little more depth i inked the die with a little bit of aqua ink to make parts in the designs pop more and slightly offset it when i glued it together to frame it.  This gave it a gentle framing around the center and didn't make the ivory so bright.  It just blends more.

And here is a quick closeup of the sentiment... isn't it gorgeous!  And here is the stamp in case you need to place a quick order!

Friendship isn't a Big Thing Scrapbook Layout

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with a scrapbook layout featuring a Quietfire Design stamp, stencil and die.  Quietfire Design products work SO well together.

I started with a piece of patterned paper from the BoBunny paper line Serenade.  This is an older line, but so beautiful with the rich colours and patterns.  If you're interested, the Quietfire Designs online store still has the 6x6 Serenade Paper Pad in stock, available here.
The patterned paper was so pretty I didn't add a lot of embellishments.  A bit of machine stitching, a bit of fussy cutting of an extra piece of patterned paper to add a few extra poppies to the layout, and a bevy of butterflies using the Butterfly Kaleidscope stencil.

I tried a couple of different mediums with the stencil - Pentart wax paste in bronze and Viva Decor Inka Gold in red and just smeared them on with my index finger - but you could certainly use ink or many other mediums, depending upon the look that you wanted.  I just wanted to add a touch of subtle colour and wasn't too worried about getting discrete edges on the butterflies.  A bevy of butterflies adds such a nice touch to a scrapbook page.

I added Happy for a title (from the Happy Anniversary die set, but you can of course use the words separately).  We were a very happy group hiking in the Black Forest of Germany.  I then stamped the friendship quote onto another bit of patterned paper to finish the page.  Enjoy your friends and make sure you get pictures of them, even if it's a silly selfie.  Happy Scrapbooking!

Friendship isn't a Big Thing

Hello All!!!!!!!  It's Wanda here today with a mixed media card. 

My main panel is 6 3/8" x 4 3/4".  Using the Flourished Frame Stencil I applied white Embossing Paste to the panel (be sure to clean the stencil right away when finished).  Once the paste was dry, I inked over the panel with Distress Oxide Inks - Fossilized Amber in the center area and Cracked Pistacchio around the edges - allowing the colors to blend in the frame area.  Once inked I lightly sprayed the panel with water and dried it.  Next I used the Distress Marker Spiced Marmalade on the embossing paste, applying some on the top of the paste and then using my finger to rub and spread it.  Yes, some went off the paste onto the card creating shadows, more in some areas and less in others.  The quote, Friendship Isn't A Big Thing, was stamped onto the panel with Archival Ink Jet Black using the Misti Stamping Tool.  It was stamped a few times to make it nice and dark.  Next I stenciled the hearts, Hearts and Paws Prints Spray Stencil, with Fossilized Amber Oxide.  Where the ink went over the lettering it softened the color but I hadn't removed the stamp from the press so was able to stamp it again.  Later I decided I should have used Cracked Pistacchio so stenciled the hearts again bumping the stencil a bit and not covering all the Fossilized Amber. I then gave a very light misting of water over the panel.  I had meant to stamp the quote again but forgot until I was already assembling the flower on the card.  It is not as noticeable in person as it is in the picture.  The flower is Susan's Garden Notes Queen Anne's Lace (Elizabeth Craft Designs). There are wonderful videos on YouTube for cutting and assembling the flowers.  Finally I edged the panel with Distress Paint Tarnished Brass.  This is layered to a white panel, green craft thread (Tim Holtz) wrapped around, and layered to the folded green card.

Happy Mid-Week!!!  I hope things are going well for you!!!

It's Wanda here today and I decided to get a little shabby chic for this post.  I've combined one of Quietfire's wonderful friendship quotes with a self done background, some 7 gypsies paper, and some die cuts.  

Let's get started...

1.  Create a 5" x 6 1/2" side-fold card from Misty Mauve.

2.  Cut Watercolor Paper 4 1/2" x 6".  Stencil numbers with gesso in three areas and let dry.

3. Put Shabby Shutters, Wild Honey, and Fired Brick on craft sheet, drag stenciled paper through color, spray water on paper to help color move tipping paper to allow it run, blot over stenciling a little and dry paper.  

4.  Use dauber top to add Bundled Sage across paper and dry.  Use dauber top to rub Picket Fence across paper and dry.  Distress edges.

5.  Choose patterned paper from book, cut/tear pieces to use, use dauber top to rub Picket Fence over papers, splatter patterned papers and watercolor paper piece with gesso thinned with water.  

6.  Choose paper to stamp quote on.  Stamp quote with Jet Black ink.  Rub Picket Fence around edges.  Tear and distress edges.

7.  Attach papers together.  Stamp gesso circles.  I used an empty paint bottle cap and the end of an eraser to stamp the circles.

8.  Attach a piece of lace along left edge of layered papers and then attach stack to folded card.  

9.  Add some shading along the edges of layered papers by scribbling pencil along edge and activating with a water brush. 

10.  Die cut leaves from watercolor paper.

11.  Die cut flowers from Misty Mauve, spray with just a bit with water, crumple flowers, carefully uncrumple, dry with heat tool, dry brush some gesso on petals and dry.  

12.  Attach leaves and flowers as shown adding pearls to center of flowers.  

13.  Cut a butterfly from pattered paper and attach to card.  Add a scrap of lace under paper layer in lower right corner.

Butterfly Background Tutorial- Friendship card

Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here sharing a bright and cheerful butterfly friendship card using Quietfire Design's butterflies from the Butterflies/Dragonflies stamp set:

The card background is so much fun to make and too easy to do.  So grab a cup of tea and enjoy the background instructions!  Please note: all items (especially your lovely stamps) should be washed immediately after use to ensure the paint does not dry and ruin your stamps, brushes, etc.

Cut a piece of white card stock larger than your card base.  Place a small amount of Distress Paint (Scattered Straw and Antique Linen) on a craft mat.  Take a toothbrush (not one you or another family member are using- LOL) and press gently in the Scattered Straw paint.  Lightly swipe toothbrush up card stock.  Re-dip into paint and swipe down.  Continue until you are satisfied with the coverage.  Air or heat dry.  Repeat with Antique Linen.  Rinse toothbrush and set aside.

Place a small amount of white acrylic paint onto craft mat.  Take a very flexible paint brush and dip the tips of the fibers in the paint.  Point the paintbrush towards the paper and run a finger along the edges of the fibers.  The paint will randomly spray on the background.  Rinse brush and set aside.  Allow background to dry or dry using heat tool.  Below is a close-up of the paint flicks:

Next are the butterflies!

Place two small amounts of Distress Paint in Blueprint Sketch onto craft mat.  Add white paint to one of the Blueprint Sketch amounts and mix to create a light blue color.  Either dip or lightly paint the small butterfly stamp into the light blue.  Practice stamping butterfly on scrap paper.  After you are satisfied with your stamped image, stamp butterfly randomly on background.  Repeat using the larger butterfly stamp and the Blueprint Sketch paint.  Wash stamps thoroughly.  Do not clean up light blue or Blueprint Sketch paint...you will need both colors one more time.

Cut background to size and mount onto white paper and then a tent fold dark blue card base.  (My card base was 5.5" x 5.5", the white mat was 5.25" x 5.25" and the background was 5" x 5".)

Stamp the Friendship sentiment onto white card stock using Blueprint Sketch paint.  Wash stamp immediately.  Air or heat dry completely.  Die cut and emboss using Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Squares.  Using toothbrush, apply light blue paint along edges.

Dye ribbon- Two methods can be used to dye the ribbon: Using a craft pad, "stamp" Distress Inks in Scattered Straw and Antique Linen on a couple of spots near each other. Spritz with water. Crinkle up the ribbon and place in watered ink.  

Or- dab Distress Stains in Scattered Straw and Antique Linen onto craft mat.  Crinkle ribbon and place in stains.  Air or gently heat dry.  

Below are the results for each dyeing method.  I used the Distress Stain method for a lighter colored ribbon.

Cut dry die cut sentiment as shown.  Use foam dots or foam tape to elevate.  Create crinkle bow and tie with twine.  Adhere as shown.  Optional: add pearls.

Isn't the sentiment just gorgeous?  And the butterfly background is too happy.  This could be a bright card for a dear friend.  :)

Love You - To Love - Friendship

Yogi here today with an easy and simple card.

One of my DT sisters pointed me to a neat technique using Glad "Press 'n Seal" Freezer sealable wrap to help adhere bunches of small die cuts... 

In this case I placed my text block letters onto my card, pressed down a piece of the Press'n Seal, lifted it up and all my letters were temporarily stuck to the freezer wrap. Applied glue to the letters and then pressed it back down on my card front, adjusting any letter that moved a bit. Voila, Easy Peasy BIG GRIN (on YouTube by llwillison)

Side folded my blue textured card (5"w x 7"h).

I had a bunch of Color Burst decorated papers sprinkled with Schminke gold powder and Coarse Kosher Salt technique on 90# watercolor paper, so die cut a bunch of letters to create my text block ("Alphabet Caps").

I adhered my text block as described above to some white cardstock, trimmed down. Sponged some Distress "Fossilized Amber" around the edges and under my "Love You" words.

Die cut the word "Love" and the word "You" from some scrapbook cardstock and intertwined the 2 words together. I didn't like the scrapbook paper with my text block... so applied Versamark all over and embossed with Hot Stuff "Turquoise Shimmer" embossing powder. Cut another of the 2 words from a teal cardstock and adhered the 2 together as a shadow layer, then onto my card front piece. Adhered the white layer to a teal textured cardstock and used a layering ruler to cut a 1/8" border all around. Adhered to my blue card.

Added a blue Sari bow and attached a gold heart charm with some light blue twine using a hot glue tool.

On the inside: Stamped the quote using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed.

Stamped the bird image (Penny Black "The Sweetest Sound") using Distress mini pads to color, misted with water and stamped, then clear embossed.

 Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here sharing a Friendship card using one of my favorite stamps from Quietfire Design, "Friendship isn't a big thing":

I just can't get enough of this stamp- the design and the sentiment are beautiful!

The card used patterned paper from Graphic 45's paper pad "Kraft Reflections".  (The paper pad is available at the Quietfire store and is on sale right now for 30% off.  Great price...especially if you are a U.S. customer because the Canadian dollar is quite a bit lower than the U.S.!)

The large Paris postage stamp and the butterfly were both cut from the patterned papers.  The back side of one of the papers was stamped with the Friendship stamp and Archival ink in black.

Cuts of the Week- Checkerboard and Chevron Cards-15 Minute Wonders and more!

Hi Y'all!

Robyn here with some blasts from the past.

Suzanne instructed me to create some  "Guy" cards with the 

 Checkerboard Frame 

and

Chevron Frame cards digital cutting files.

The first card I set the 15 minute timer and CASEd the file just as it appears on the mat.

(Guy card- lock up the glitter and glitz!)

The center panel could use a border, and the timer went off!

This card is 5X7 and  likeing to work with A2,  the second card is sized down.

Easy peasy with the Cameo.

Still it took a bit more than 15 minutes with the design changes.

When I saw this stamp

Moving on to Chevron, staying in A2, a second 15 minute card!

********TIPS*******

• If you are not sure about placement of your cutting on your paper, use a pencil and sketch it out first. then if you have to just, you can do so , erase the pencil marks and no paper is harmed!
• Press down on the mat with a bone folder.  before you remove your card and all the little pieces will stick to the mat. No fussy punching out pieces.

 Fire up those cutters and show us what you can do with Quietfire Design files and stamps.
