Gilded Butterfly Kaleidoscope Card

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with a card featuring the butterfly kaleidoscope stencil, several colours of  modern gilding powders and the I will Write Peace stamp

The background of this card was super fun and easy to make.  I just spread embossing paste through the butterfly stencil, sprinkled with a few colours of gilding powder - Celtic Mint, Dilly Dilly Lavender and Armenian Pink - and heated with my embossing heat gun.  The gilding powders melt and the embossing paste puffs up, adding some lovely dimension.

Mount your butterfly background on some coordinating cardstock, add the stamped sentiment and a bit of ribbon and you're done.  Have a wonderful day, Connie

How to use a Glue Stick with Leafing

Hello!!!  Happy Monday and Happy Anniversary for the hubs and I.  We have now been married for 35 years.  Wow!!!
Autumn has arrived and the leaves are looking beautiful, however yesterday felt much more like winter outside and it even spit a bit of snow.  Thankfully the rest of the week will be more like fall than winter.

I've started today's project with a tag from my stash that was already colored.  To tell you about the background already on it would be a total guess.  I'm thinking it's Distress Spray Stain along with Mica Spray but it's possible I'd have that wrong.  Either way I thought it was a beautiful start to an Autumn tag.

I've used glue stick with foil or leafing before but I'd never done it with a stencil/. I was thinking that it should work and had to play.  The stencil is the Leaf and Snowflake Spray (QF / ECD).  I placed it on my tag and dabbed over it with the glue stick being careful not to get globs in the design.  I then used my finger to rub the glue around pulling what was on the stencil into the cut outs, hoping to get good coverage.

I was going to use my container of left over leafing but the colors were so similar to the tag that I chose to go with some plain gold.  I pressed it onto the glue and then rubbed over the tag to remove the excess leafing putting the pieces into my container.

As you can see, I didn't manage to get glue everywhere in all the areas.  This would look great if you were just going for the suggestion of falling leaves and I'm thinking an art journal page is in my future.  However, I wanted the whole design on my tag.  I almost started over with a whole new idea but then decided I would continue and take you along on the journey.  So what to do....

I decided on Embossing Powder on top of Embossing Paste.  Before beginning I used an anti-static bag over the tag to be sure the powder only stuck to the paste.  The stencil was placed back on lining it up with what was already leafed, Texture Paste Transparent Matte was applied with a pallet knife, the stencil removed, Queen's Gold Embossing Powder poured on the wet paste, and dump off the extra.  At this point you can allow the paste to dry with the powder on it and once the paste is completely dry then heat to melt the embossing powder.  This will create a smoother look.  If you like a more textured look then you can heat the powder to melt right away which will cause the paste to bubble.  Be sure to have adequate ventilation when heating acrylic mediums.

Yes, I chose to heat right away and get lots of texture in my leaves.

Back to the glue stick.  I rubbed glue stick onto the edges of the tag, pressed all the edges into the little pieces in my container of leafing, and then rubbed over the edges to burnish the leafing and remove all the excess.

The quote is from the new Autumn Collection of stamps.  It is stamped with Versamark Ink and embossed with Weathered White Powder.

Some twine and a metal leaf to finish it.  The leaf was gold and color added with Alcohol Inks.

Embossing Paste w/ Powder Mini Canvas - Jewelry Words

Hello.  It's Wanda here today to share a mini canvas with you.  This little thing is only 2" square.

I painted the top and sides with acrylic paint applying it with my fingers.

I stamped hope onto plain Tissue Warp, tore it out.....

and glued it to the canvas with Collage Medium.  I put some medium on the canvas, placed the word, then brushed the whole top of the canvas with the medium.

Before stenciling the butterflies with White Embossing Paste I used an anti-static bag generously over the entire top of the canvas.

I immediately poured Embossing Powder over the paste and tapped the excess off.  The powder sticks to the wet paste.

Allow the paste to dry and then use a heat tool to melt the embossing powder.

Stencil dots on all four edges with purple ink and also dab ink onto all the corners and edges.

I hope you've enjoyed today's project!!!  It's a fun and easy project.

Hugs, Wanda

Friendship isn't a Big Thing

Hello All!!!!!!!  It's Wanda here today with a mixed media card.

My main panel is 6 3/8" x 4 3/4".  Using the Flourished Frame Stencil I applied white Embossing Paste to the panel (be sure to clean the stencil right away when finished).  Once the paste was dry, I inked over the panel with Distress Oxide Inks - Fossilized Amber in the center area and Cracked Pistacchio around the edges - allowing the colors to blend in the frame area.  Once inked I lightly sprayed the panel with water and dried it.  Next I used the Distress Marker Spiced Marmalade on the embossing paste, applying some on the top of the paste and then using my finger to rub and spread it.  Yes, some went off the paste onto the card creating shadows, more in some areas and less in others.  The quote, Friendship Isn't A Big Thing, was stamped onto the panel with Archival Ink Jet Black using the Misti Stamping Tool.  It was stamped a few times to make it nice and dark.  Next I stenciled the hearts, Hearts and Paws Prints Spray Stencil, with Fossilized Amber Oxide.  Where the ink went over the lettering it softened the color but I hadn't removed the stamp from the press so was able to stamp it again.  Later I decided I should have used Cracked Pistacchio so stenciled the hearts again bumping the stencil a bit and not covering all the Fossilized Amber. I then gave a very light misting of water over the panel.  I had meant to stamp the quote again but forgot until I was already assembling the flower on the card.  It is not as noticeable in person as it is in the picture.  The flower is Susan's Garden Notes Queen Anne's Lace (Elizabeth Craft Designs). There are wonderful videos on YouTube for cutting and assembling the flowers.  Finally I edged the panel with Distress Paint Tarnished Brass.  This is layered to a white panel, green craft thread (Tim Holtz) wrapped around, and layered to the folded green card.

Give Thanks!

Good morning!  Sherry here today and I have an altered frame to share using the new Quietfire Design set, Give Thanks.  I debated on whether to make a card or alter a craft frame, and I settled on the frame.

GiveThanksFrame2

I began by using a Dreamweaver stencil of a flourish and added Crackle Embossing Paste to the front of the frame.  Once the paste was dry, the frame was painted black.    To highlight the embossing paste, a bronze metal paint was brushed over the black paint.

The Quietfire Design sentiment was stamped on a cream card stock and then die cut/embossed with Spellbinders Labels One.

I think I’ll set this frame out for the fall holidays and then sentiment can be changed for the seasons.

Thanks for stopping by and joining me today!

EMBOSSED PASTE - The doors we open and close, Tiles set of 5

Hello!!  Wanda here today combining embossing paste and embossing powder to get great texture and dimension.  You can get a variety of looks from this depending on what color of paste you use and what kinds or colors of embossing powder you use.  It can also be a great way to use up some of that old powder you have sitting around especially if you want to mix it up some by combining colors similar to what I did below.

I started with a piece of watercolor paper just to have a little more weight to the paper but you could use regular cardstock, colored or not.  You can leave the paper as is or add color which I did with Distress Inks (spiced marmalade, mustard seed, fired brick).

Next is the paste.  I'm using translucent paste through a Dylusions stencil.  Place the stencil on your paper and apply the paste with a palette knife (or you could use an old credit card).  Pull the stencil straight up, scrape off the excess paste and put it back in the jar.  Wipe off your stencil and knife so the paste doesn't dry on it.

Add your embossing powder while the paste is still wet.  Here I'm using Distress embossing powder (spiced marmalade, pine needles, and fired brick).  Most of the colors of Distress EP have been discontinued, including these, but Suzanne has these 3 colors left (limited supply) if you want to get them while you can find them.  I first added some pine needles by pinching some out of the container with my fingers and sprinkling it around on my paste.  I tapped the paper moving the powder around and then dumped off the rest flicking the back of the paper.  It was at this point that I noticed I hadn't got my Distress Ink completely dry.  I wasn't worried about excess powder between the paste dots but if you don't want that, be sure you dry your ink thoroughly and you might want to use an anti-static bag.  Next I did the same thing with the fired brick powder adding a bit more than I did of the pine needles.  Lastly I poured spiced marmalade over the rest.

You can let this sit until the embossing paste is totally dry and then heat to melt the powder or you can heat it right away and the paste will bubble in some places, which I like and so I did.  To me it just adds extra texture.

Next I repeated to add dots to the rest of my paper.

Here are a couple of close-ups of the embossing so you can see how all the dimension and the great texture that you get.

For the leaves on my card, I die cut them from a scrap of natural cardstock (I didn't need to cut the whole die), sprayed on some distress stains that I had placed in mister bottles, dried them, added some stamping (Tiles stamp set) with Archival Ink sepia, and inked the edges a little with Distress Ink.

The quote was stamped onto natural cardstock with Archival Ink jet black, torn out and layered on torn-edge scraps of red and green cardstock.  I distressed the edges of the background, layered it to green cardstock and then the red folded card.  I added a piece of some gold meshy stuff (I've had it a long time) and the leaves.  Finally I decided to splatter some paint.  I used Distress Paint tarnished brass and a water brush. I put some paint on my craft sheet, picked it up with the wet water brush and holding the water brush loosely in my hand tapped it against my finger.  As the paint is flying off it becomes more watery and you get different shades of dots.

Tim Holtz die - autumn gatherings
Distress Paint - tarnished brass

Just to give you one example of another look, here is another start of a project (I'll finish and share it one of these days).  I started with a small tag, added Distress Inks (vintage photo, dusty concord, broken china), used translucent paste through a stencil and then clear embossing powder.  It didn't take as long to get the embossing powder on so there was more of the paste that was still wet and I got even more bubbling in some areas. Fun!!!!!!!!!!  Some of the areas bubbled enough that the paste turned a little white looking which I liked too.
