Sleeping Under a Quilt

It's Suzanne sneaking in today between all the usual awesomeness!  This week I released four quilt block cards over on the Silhouette store.  I wanted to make the files simple to assemble with very few pieces and yet still have the look of a true quilt block.

 

Here is an easy card I created using my Sleeping Under a Quilt stamp and the Star Quilt Block Card.  Instead of making the cutfile cardbase, I assembled the quilt block on the front of a larger card with enough room to stamp the quote.

Here are the four quilt block cards over on the Silhouette site.  There is a Cathedral Window, a Dresden Plate, a Star and a Flying Geese Quilt Block.

I used Maja Designs cardstock* and Core'dinations Atoll Aqua cardstock to create these and cut everything with the Silhouette Cameo.  I have totally fallen in love with the Maja papers!  

Your own cards could be in any colour pathway you wish - even more subtle than this or bright and beautiful.  Each card measures 5x5", so you can enlarge them.  For more detailed instructions (although they're so simple, you probably won't need them), see the file description.

You Are Never Too Old

Good Morning.  This is Selma Stevenson this morning with a card to let us know we are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.  I love this sentiment and it pairs so well with the die cut, A Way With Words "Dream".

 

This sentiment was stamped, using VersaFine black ink,  on one of the Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Rectangles.  A matching frame was die cut for the die cut, A Way With Words "Dream". 

The flowers were created with Susan's Garden Anemone dies.  The bird was die cut using Els van de Burgt die.  Silk Microfine Glitter was used on the bottom layer of the bird die cut.

Yvonne here today sharing a card using Quietfire Design stamp "If I had a Star for every time you made me smile"
For this card soft pastel colours were chisen for a feminine touch. Personally I love to combine soft pink with grey.
Since the die-cut is an intricate pattern, no patterned paper is used for this card.

Used materials:

• Spellbinders: Becca Feeken Intertwined Spirals , Standard Circles Large
• Archival ink: Jet Black
• mulberry flowers, leaves, satin ribbon, self-adhesive peark strips
• Scrapbook Adhesives: 3D foam Squares
• glue
• cardstock: white, grey, pink, silver.

ECD Friends - Be With Those - When I Made This - HB

Yogi here today... I was a little stumped as to what I wanted to make for my blog post...  and then I decided to make something simpler than my norm...

I'm using an "A Way With Words" dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs ("Friends"), designed by Suzanne Cannon (also available on Quietfire Design HERE). 

HINT: If you are having difficulty positioning your die cut word and keeping the vertical parts of the letters from splaying, cut your word die from clear plastic to use the negative as a positioner. Position the clear plastic where you want your word to sit, tape down so it doesn't move, apply glue to your positive die cut and then press it into the clear plastic piece, carefully remove the clear plastic while holding down the letters as you are lifting the plastic from your word. When plastic is removed continue pressing your word to adhere completely.

Also using several other products from Elizabeth Craft Designs "Stitched Rectangles", "Bunch of Flowers", "Lady Bugs" and one of Bianca Petroschi stamps "Robin" (not colored like a robin BIG GRIN...). 

I'm also using a new quote stamp & a birthday sentiment stamp as well as a combination of parts to create my own quote... from Quietfire Design  ("Be With Those..."); ("Happy Birthday Plain And Simple" 7 pce set); ("When I Saw This...") & ("If I had a Star..." new version is slightly smaller)

I had this dirty paper towel from cleaning my craft sheet of various watercolors and Color Burst stuff sitting on my table, and I really liked the colors, so separated the 2 layers and adhered one of them on some thin white cardstock with a glue stick. Then die cut several of the "Friends" words as well as the little flowers.

Side folded my white card (5"w x 7"h).
Cut a piece of pale pink pearlescent scrapbook paper and ran through my die cutting machine using the Spellbinders tan mat to emboss the stitching detail of the die without cutting it. Note: placed the die on the back of my scrapbook paper so I would get a textured stitch detail on the front. Inked the quote stamp using Versafine "Vintage Sepia" and then hitting here and there with "Black Soot", stamped and clear embossed. Trimmed it down, making sure my rectangle was centered and adhered to card front.

Adhered my "Friends" words.
Tooled the flowers on a piece of fun foam then adhered 2 layers together and then on to card front. Added a textured light pink jewel to the flower centers.
Die cut the lady bug pieces, colored the black part with a Zig Writer and the yellow part with Winsor and Newton Permanent Marker. Inked the yellow with Versamark and clear embossed. Adhered to front.

On the inside: On a piece of white cardstock, stamped the elements for the quote using a stamp positioner.
First, inked the stamp, masking the word "saw" using the black soot, clear embossed. Masked around the word "made"inked with the black, stamped it on some tracing paper to get my position, reinked the "made" word and stamped onto my quote, clear embossed. Die cut with the stitched rectangles and sponged with a dirty pink sponge.

Die cut the next size up of rectangle from the pearlescent paper and adhered the 2 layers together then on to the card.

Created an eCut file of the Robin stamp (or just fussy cut around it...), cut from white cardstock, stamped with the black and colored with Prisma colored pencils. Adhered to card.

Cut the "Happy Birthday" stamp between the two words, positioned on my acrylic block, inked with the black, stamped and clear embossed.

May each treasure...

Hello!  So are you a cat person or a dog person?  My best friend is a cat person (but I love her anyways) and when she lost her furbaby, I can empathize with her loss as I have my own furbabies of the canine variety.  So I made this card with her in my thoughts and prayers with this Quietfire Design stamp. 

The base is a an A2 sized card made with black card stock and the  burgundy matting is made with the largest of the Spellbinders Matting Basics A.  I then stamped this sentiment in black Versafine and die cut out with the Spellbinders Deckled rectangles. Before I removed it from the die, I sponged a bit of Distress InksAntique Linen along the edges.  The frayed straw was something I picked up at a Scrapbook Expo many years ago that I never used - just goes to show you that hoarding pays off.  :)

The cat is a piece of wood veneer that I painted gold over.  He was just perfect for this card.

The Greatest Strength is Gentleness

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with another scrapbook layout featuring a Quietfire Design stamp and an assortment of Elizabeth Craft Designs dies.

The stamp is an Iroquois proverb and is a relatively new addition to the Quietfire Design store.  It just makes me think of big men and how gentle they can be with small children.  Perfect for embellishing a layout about a father or grandfather interacting with kids.  This particular photo is from my childhood that I scanned from a 35 mm slide.  The resolution is not the greatest but it brings back fond memories of my grandpa who died in 1976. 

 I used the Way with Words 'Happy' die from the Happy Anniversary set for the page title. I just sponged a little green ink on the diecut cut from white cardstock.   

The patterned paper is from the new Elizabeth Craft Designs 'Through the Lens' 6x6 patterned paper packs.  I used three different sheets (two from the wood set and one from the stone series) and layered them under the photo.  I liked the vintage textured feel of them.  The stitched ovals, clouds and the pail/shovel die are also from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  Although the latter is from a palm tree set there is no reason it can't work for a playground or sand box theme.  Like the 'happy' from the Happy Anniversary die set, remember to think outside the box a little when looking at your dies.  

You Are Amazing

Hello and Happy Monday!!!!  I hope you had a good weekend!!  Here in southern Iowa we've had a couple tastes of Spring and then winter again.  We are supposed to have some more Spring-like temps again this week.  I'm looking forward to our large lilac bush blooming and even more, walking through the yard and smelling that they are blooming.  In the meantime, I thought I'd make my own lilacs and I've combined them with the You are Amazing Quietfire stamp.  I think we all have someone in our life that is extra-special and that we would even say that they are amazing.

Glowing Happy Birthday

So here is a project a little outside the norm.  At CHA this year, I was lucky enough to be gifted with some fun pens by Sakura.  So here is what I did with a few of them.

Lettering in gold and adding a few easy strokes and embellishments can make all the difference! When these letters catch the light, they simply glow.

There is no end to the fun you could have!  Simply add your own special touches to customize a birthday card with glitz and love.

Supplies:
Core’dinations: Aquamarine, Harborside
Pentouch Calligrapher in Gold
GellyRoll Metallic
Soapstone pencil
Ruler
Double sided adhesive
Kneadable eraser

 

Instructions:

1.      Form a tent fold card base measuring 12 x 4.5” from dark coloured cardstock.

2.      Cut a panel measuring 11 x 3.5” from the same dark cardstock and cut a slightly larger mat of the lighter coloured cardstock.

3.      Lightly draw a baseline and a waistline across the smallest panel with your soapstone pencil to help keep your lettering straight.  If your paper is textured, you might want to work on the smoother side.

4.      Letter your sentiment with the Pentouch Calligrapher.

5.      Create small hearts in the stem of each letter as shown, using Gelly Roll pens in red or pink.

6.      Run strokes between each of the letters and through the counterspaces using pens in your favourite colours.

7.      Draw little curls at the end of the phrase.

8.      Add extra flourishes, hearts and dots.  Have fun!

9.      Assemble the card as shown with double sided adhesive. Erase the soapstone pencil lines with a kneadable eraser.

I Wouldn't Have Missed Being Your Friend - Bonnie Garby, Guest Designer

Hi everyone.  I'm Bonnie Garby from Make Time to Craft and I'm guest designing for Quietfire Design this month.  Today I'm back with a card featuring the wonderful 'I wouldn't have missed being your friend for anything' stamp.  What a lovely quote for a card for a dear friend.

 

This time I started with a 5-1/2" square card base.  I stamped my beautiful sentiment on white cardstock with VersaFine Onyx Black ink.  I die cut around the sentiment with the Large Silver Circle Pierce and Cut Tool and the Circle Classic Large Stacker die, both from Cheery Lynn Designs.

For the background I cut a 5" square piece of white cardstock and backed it with Stick It adhesive.  I centered the Lords & Commons Square Doily from Cheery Lynn Designs on the right side of the cardstock and cut it out.  I then adhered the die cut to a piece of gray cardstock and trimmed leaving a narrow border.  I then added layers of yellow and gray.  Then I wrapped a piece of Metal Grey Diamond Satin around the center of the card and secured in back.  Then I added a layer of white mulberry paper and attached the panel to the card base.  Next I cut a piece of Yellow and Gray Confetti Dot Grosgrain Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon and dove tailed the ends.  Then I layered that piece over the diamond satin ribbon layer.  Then I attached the sentiment panel to the center of the card front using foam tape.

 

 

I created my roses with the Medium and Large Rose dies from Cheery Lynn Designs.  I cut the flower layers from white cardstock and inked the layers with yellow ink.  I sponged the edges with gray ink to define them.  I cut the Tiny Fanciful Flourish Right and Left from Cheery Lynn Designs out of green cardstock.  I attached the flourishes and roses below the sentiment.

I created a bi-color double-loop bow using Lemon Delicate Stitched Satin and Metal Gray Diamond Satin Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon on the Bow-it-All V2.0 Tool and attached it above the sentiment.

Believe - Easy Flourished Embossing on Gold Foil

This one word can mean so much.  The special person who receives this card will think of you and smile every time its reflected shimmer catches their eye.

Here is what you'll need to make this project:

Core’dinations cardstock: Purple Grandeur and Wisteria

Thermoweb iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Gold

Thermoweb iCraft  Easy-Cut Adhesive

Thermoweb 3D Foam Squares

Stylus

Smooth Cardstock

Glue Dots

Diecutting machine

Mouse pad or flower-shaping foam pad

 

 

Instructions:

1.       Form a 7.5 x 5.5” card base from dark purple cardstock.  Cut one panel measuring 6.5 x 4.25” from light purple and one panel measuring 6 x 3.75” from dark cardstock.

2.       Die cut one Believe from dark and one from light cardstock. Adhere them together, using Glue Dots, with the light coloured diecut on top and the dark diecut slightly offset behind so it appears as a drop shadow.

3.       Cut a panel of smooth cardstock measuring approximately 6 x 3.5”.  Cut a piece of Easy-Cut adhesive to 5.75 x 3.5”. Remove one side of the release paper and adhere it to the smooth panel.  Run this through your diecutting machine for even adhesion.

4.       Remove remaining release paper and lay foil, gold side up, over the whole adhesive surface.  Place this panel inside a folded sheet of copier paper to protect it and run it through your die cutting machine again. Trim to 5.75 x 3.25”

5.       Adhere Believe into the middle of the foiled panel using Glue Dots.

6.       Place foiled Believe panel onto the foam pad and use your stylus to emboss the surface  by pressing firmly.  Draw flourishing designs and leaves and dots around the diecut.

7.       Assemble panels as shown in the photo using foam adhesive.
