Stand Up Birthday!

Here is a fun way to use your word diecuts.  Stand them up!  You can put them in all sorts of places on their special day.  Place them on the table, mantle or a bedside table.  Add them to the top of a cake or cupcake! There is no end to where you can put them. This project goes together really quickly, so you can make lots and leave them around the house or office.  Give someone a stand up birthday!

Supplies:

Elizabeth Craft Designs Happy Birthday 1054

Elizabeth Craft Designs Flourished Night Sky 1561 (flower elements)

Rinea Double sided foiled paper – Woodlands Variety Pack in pale green textured, pale green smooth and dark green. Princess Variety Pack in pink.

Xyron Mega Runner Permanent Adhesive

Instructions:

1. Die cut Happy Birthday from pale green textured and pale green smooth foiled paper.  Die cut flower from pink and the leaves from dark green textured foiled paper.
2. Run adhesive across the top of the letters on Happy of the rear die cut. I used the smooth foil for the back diecut.  Align the top die cut and adhere to the back.  
3. Adhere the leaves to the back of the flower.  Attach the flower and leaves to the H on Happy Birthday.
4. Gently pull the back and front die cuts apart to form a tent so the words will stand on their own.   
5. Stand Happy Birthday on a surface.  If it’s not straight, carefully trim off the bottoms of the flourishes till the word sit straight. Refer to the photo.
6. 1.       Place the stand-up Happy Birthday on a desk, on a cake, on a cupcake or anywhere your special birthday person might see it all day long.

This thoughtful little addition will please anyone celebrating their birthday.  Try it with other word dies for different occasions!

Sneak Peek- Happy Birthday and Spray Hearts

Hello Crafty Friends!

One more day of the new release sneak peeks...that's right...tomorrow the new release collection is officially released!  Oh- the new A Way With Words die and stamp release is not only an awesome release but it is huge.  It was difficult to decide which project I wanted to share for the sneak peek as I could not decide which product to share first.  Too much awesomeness!  After much thought, I decided to share this project which used two dies from the collection: Happy Birthday 3 and Hearts (part of the Hearts & Paw Prints die set).

Card instructions:

1. Use desired Dylusions Sprays (or similar) on mixed media paper.  (You will need a piece of paper large enough to cut the Happy Birthday in step 4 and for the card front background in step 2.)  Dry.
2. Create top fold 4.25" x 5.5" card base using white card stock.  Mat the mixed media background (from step 1) to card front.
3. Die cut wood grain patterned paper using heart spray die.  Mat to size and mount to card front.
   
4. Die cut Happy Birthday using white card stock and mixed media paper.  Offset mount the die cuts using liquid adhesive.
   
5. Create wee red dots in the middle of each heart using Enamel Accents in Carnation Red (or whatever color coordinates with your mixed media background).
6. Create coordinating flower and adhere using liquid adhesive.

Isn't it a fun birthday card?  The heart spray is so sweet and I adore the "happy birthday".

Happy Birthday with Butterflies

Hi Quietfire friends it's Teresa here with a brand new card i created using the Happy Birthday Clear set of stamps from the "A Way with Words" collection.  This set has lots of gorgeous stamps in it so it was really hard to pick.  But there are always lots of birthdays in our family so i can always do more.

The papers i used for my card are from a new line from Prima called Lavender.  It's filled with gorgeous roses and butterflies and it's perfect to use for spring.  You could even pull out your favorite Mother's day stamp and use it too.  (Click HERE for mother's day stamp ideas).

Fancy Fold "Birthday/Follow Your Dreams" card

Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here today sharing a fancy fold card using Quietfire Designs' Happy Birthday:

This card style is one of my favorite fancy folds and is a very elegant way to show the beauty of Quietfire Design stamps.  The card base is surprisingly simple to make: 

• Cut a piece of card stock to 5.25" by 12".  
• Score at 2" and 10".  
• Flip over and score at 4" and 8".  
• Fold.  Your folded card should look like this:

• Determine how you want your card front to look:  
  
• For the card front background, cut two pieces of the patterned paper to just smaller than 2" x 5.25".  Next, mount the focal point of the card front.  In this example, I mounted the Happy Birthday sentiment on a coordinating die cut doily.  
  
• Please note that when mounting, you only adhere the doily to one half of the card front.  Do not apply adhesive to the entire doily back.
  
• After completing the card front, it is time to make the inside beautiful.  Stamp the Follow Your Dreams onto coordinating paper and cut to size.  Apply strip of patterned paper vertically as shown.  Mount to inside of card.
  

The fancy fold card is now complete and ready to give to a special friend or family member to cherish.

Friends R Special - You Are The Best - Happy Birthday

Yogi here today and was in a mood to use butterflies...

I'm using a bunch of dies and a stencil from Suzanne and Elizabeth Craft Designs. Suzanne came out with a bunch of stencils and I'm using the "Butterflies/Stars Spray Stencil" (on Quietfire Design HERE). Then I'm  using a couple and a part of A Way With Words dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs "Friends", "Special Moments" 2pce die set, and "R from Remember" also available on Quietfire Design HERE, HERE and HERE

And using a couple sentiment stamps from Quietfire Design, as well as a design element butterfly

("I Don't Tell You Often Enough..." 5pce set); ("Let Them Eat Cupcakes/Happy Birthday" 4pce set);  ("Butterflies/Dragonflies" 7pce set) 


Scored and folded my minty  Bazzill Monochromatic cardstock to create the side easel, cutting another piece the same size as card for the front.
I started with 12 x 12" cardstock. Cut the cardstock to 5" x 12". Scored vertically at the 7" point leaving a 5" end piece which I scored diagonally to create the fold for the side easel. see diagram above.

 
Stenciled the spray of butterflies using various colors of Distress pads.

Adhered a piece of yellow floral ribbon.

Die cut the large butterfly (Sizzix Bigz Butterfly/embossing combo) from a scrap piece of decorated cardstock. Ran through with the embossing die, then hit the high points with Versamark and embossed with "Queen's Gold" embossing powder. Adhered to card front.

Die cut the various words "Friends", "Special", and "Remember" from white cardstock. Trimmed around the letter R from remember. Inked the words with a brown stamp pad and embossed with Emerald Creek "Oil Rubbed Bronze" embossing powder. Adhered words to front.

On the floor: Adhered a strip of pearl ribbon to act as my stopper.

Stamped the sentiments onto a scrap piece of the minty green cardstock using Versafine "Vintage Sepia" and clear embossed. Trimmed the piece down, rounded the corners with a corner rounder punch, inked the edges with a dark brown Distress pad sponged some of the brown around the edges and adhered to floor with 3D foam tape.

Stamped the butterflies using another piece of scrap decorated watercolor paper. The large one embossed with Pearlescent embossing powder. The smaller butterflies using white embossing powder. Fussy cut around the images and adhered to floor.

Final touch, added pink/mauve/green mini rhinestones to the bodies.

Glowing Happy Birthday

So here is a project a little outside the norm.  At CHA this year, I was lucky enough to be gifted with some fun pens by Sakura.  So here is what I did with a few of them.

Lettering in gold and adding a few easy strokes and embellishments can make all the difference! When these letters catch the light, they simply glow.

There is no end to the fun you could have!  Simply add your own special touches to customize a birthday card with glitz and love.

Supplies:
Core’dinations: Aquamarine, Harborside
Pentouch Calligrapher in Gold
GellyRoll Metallic
Soapstone pencil
Ruler
Double sided adhesive
Kneadable eraser

 

Instructions:

1.      Form a tent fold card base measuring 12 x 4.5” from dark coloured cardstock.

2.      Cut a panel measuring 11 x 3.5” from the same dark cardstock and cut a slightly larger mat of the lighter coloured cardstock.

3.      Lightly draw a baseline and a waistline across the smallest panel with your soapstone pencil to help keep your lettering straight.  If your paper is textured, you might want to work on the smoother side.

4.      Letter your sentiment with the Pentouch Calligrapher.

5.      Create small hearts in the stem of each letter as shown, using Gelly Roll pens in red or pink.

6.      Run strokes between each of the letters and through the counterspaces using pens in your favourite colours.

7.      Draw little curls at the end of the phrase.

8.      Add extra flourishes, hearts and dots.  Have fun!

9.      Assemble the card as shown with double sided adhesive. Erase the soapstone pencil lines with a kneadable eraser.

Happy Birthday- CHA 2016 Sneak Peek of new die!

Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here and I am very excited to share another sneak peek of the soon to be released Elizabeth Craft Designs die designed by the ever-so-talented Suzanne Cannon.

My first project using the die set was a birthday gift card holder for my brother in law.  I don't know about you all, but sometimes I can find masculine cards a little difficult.  Luckily the new happy birthday die set is perfect for masculine or feminine cards.  Below are the steps to make the gift card holder:

• Cut double sided patterned paper to 4 x 12". Score at 4" and 8". Cut last square at a diagonal and fold in as shown. Apply adhesive tape to bottom edge only. Cut white card stock to 3.5" x 3.5" and adhere to left side.

• Cut white card stock and Kraft card stock.  Using Tim Holtz stencil (Speckles), apply Ranger Ink texture paste on the Kraft card stock.  Remove stencil and apply Distress Glitter in Clear Rock Candy.  Air dry.

 

• Using the thick patterned card stock from the stencil packaging (yes, you read that correctly- the grungy paper packaging behind the stencil), die cut with "happy birthday".  The dies cut through the packaging easily.  (Not only does grungy background match the masculine card, using the packaging is a great way to reduce, reuse and recycle!)
• Assemble card front and add four gems.

Voila!  The masculine card was completed in a flash and had some masculine/glittered/textured sass.  :)

Happy Birthday with Graphic 45's Home Sweet Home

Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here sharing a cheerful card using Quietfire's new Happy Birthday die set:

Isn't it a beautiful die?  

Lately I have been trying to make more cards that are easier to mail.  With a beautiful die and patterned fussy cut papers, many lovely and easy to mail cards can be made.

For my card I die cut the Happy Birthday using scrap Home Sweet Home paper from Graphic 45.  The frame was also made using paper from the same collection.  I fussy cut some flowers, layered and added Stickles:

Yes, it did take a little bit of time to fussy cut the flowers but I found that the red helped to make the Happy Birthday "pop!":

Admittedly, it feels strange to not have a big bow or lace or 3D flowers on the card but I like how it turned out.  And it keeps the focus of the card front on the die cut sentiment.  The die cut is so pretty!

A Way With Words - Happy Birthday - Our Final Day

It's Suzanne here to share something a little different.  If you've hung around with me long enough, you'll know this style isn't too much of a surprise.  I love shabby elegance!
Here is how you can make this card.










Supplies:
Quietfire Happy Birthday from Elizabeth Craft Designs

Core'dinations French Roast cardstock
Staples White #110 Cardstock
Distress Rock Candy Crackle
Distress Weather Wood, Worn Lipstick and Vintage Photo
Ink Blending tool
Golden Gesso
Palette Knives
Star Rondelle Beads
Mini-Brads
Mini-tags 
piece of corrugated cardboard
Ranger Collage Glue stick
Transfer foil
Tombow 3D Foam Tabs
 

Instructions:

1. Form a 5x7" card base from French Roast cardstock.
2.  Die cut Happy Birthday from white cardstock and sponge around the edges with Weathered Wood.  Allow to dry.  Apply medium thickness coating of crackle medium and allow to air dry and crackle.  Sponge with Vintage Photo and rub excess off with fingers, pushing ink into the cracks. Add some highlights with Worn Lipstick and more Weathered Wood.
3. Tear a piece of corrugated cardboard and peel some of the top layer off to expose the corrugation.  Spread Gesso over the surface. Allow to dry.
4. Sponge Vintage Photo onto mini-tags. Allow to dry.  Swipe with glue stick and allow the glue to become tacky then press transfer foil onto surface. Do the same in various place on the Happy Birthday diecut. Assemble brads, beads and mini-tags as shown and adhere to project with foam tabs.
5. Adhere Happy Birthday die cut to surface with foam tabs.
6. Attach decorative bead and mount corrugated cardboard onto card base with foam tabs.

Autumn Miracles Woven Spine Card

Yogi here today with a woven spine detail that I love... and is available on my website in a jpg image and SCUT3 (Sure Cuts a Lot) file.

If you don't have an electronic cutter or can't use the files, try using the American Traditional "Wide Arrow" template, moving the template to get the length you need. The weave is narrower but just as pretty.

I eCut the woven spine, masked with post it notes, colored with Distress (Seedless Preserves & Dusty Concord) direct to paper, removed masks and placed them on the other side coloring with (Scattered Straw & Wild Honey), scored and folded (5"w x 7"h). see diagrams at bottom of post.

Cut a separate piece of white cardstock and embossed with Sheena Douglas "Ivy Frame" inking the negative side of the folder with the Straw and hitting here and there with the Honey, misting with water then embossing.  Trimmed and adhered to purple cardstock then on to my card front.

Adhered two pieces of narrow purple ribbon (one gauze and one narrow silk).

Stamped the word "miracles" cut from the "If You Don't Believe" stamp (or you could mask off the unwanted areas and use a stamp positioner), inked with Versafine Black Onyx, clear embossed.

Stamped the Wine quote with Distress "Dusty Concord and clear embossed.

Stamped the grape flourish with the purple, clear embossed, touched with a Quickie glue pen and sprinkled with Glitter Ritz micro fine glitter "Purple" & "Chartreuse"

eCut the word "Autumn" from white cardstock and while on the mat inked with Versafine "Toffee, removed from mat and embossed with Stampendous opaque "Honey" embossing powder.

eCut a shadow layer and colored with the purples, then adhered the yellow layer, then on to the card.

Inside:  Stamped the bottom part of the "If You Don't Believe" quote using the Concord and clear embossing, added the word "too" with a black fine tipped pen.

Inked the birthday with "Picked Raspberry" and hitting here and there with Preserves, misted lightly with water and stamped.

Cut apart the floral flourish and placed them on my acrylic block spread apart to the size I wanted, inked with the Raspberry and Preserves and stamped. Repeated for the bottom flourishes. Used a Sakura metallic pink gel pen to add faux stitching joining the flourishes.
