GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY- CARD

Hi Everyone! Holly here, hoping you are having a great Canada Day, or a fabulous Monday, whichever applies to you.
My technique today is Newsprint Reveal and the feature of it is to have text show through the design- hence the print being revealed. :)
To my mind, the best text around is created by Suzanne, of Quietfire Design. I chose  THIS stamp because it has smaller letters and lots of them, filling the design space well.
To begin:
I adhered COPPER TAPE to scrap card stock, then dry embossed several times with a couple different M-BOSSIBILITIES . Then I flipped it over and flattened it with my BONE FOLDER. This gives the copper great texture.

I used BLACK SOOT DISTRESS INK to stamp repeatedly onto the card stock.

Once dry, I stamped the  BUTTERFLIES with VERSAMARK and CLEAR EMBOSSED them. I dragged CHIPPED SAPPHIRE DISTRESS INK across the entire piece of card stock, then wiped away the excess from the embossed areas, using a tissue.

I punched butterflies from KAISERCRAFT MAGIC HAPPENS card stock, then attached the copper frame and butterflies to the card front. Using a white gel pen, I did faux stitching around the embossed butterflies and around the edge of the piece. This is playtime- doodle, dots and dashes, scribbles, whatever you like. I did a squiggly line with little curls here and there. I used the purple pen from the GALAXY COLORS, GELLY ROLL STARDUST set, to draw stitching around the small punched butterflies.

The final steps were to round the corners and adhere to the black card base.

I hope you like this technique and decide to give it a try. Thanks for stopping by!

God Grant Me - Gift Card

It's Suzanne here on the weekend to share a card I recently received in the mail.

Shirley Dolby in the UK asked me a long time ago to letter the Serenity Prayer and when it finally became a rubber stamp, I sent her one as a gift.

This is the beautiful card I received from her made with the stamp!

I took an extra photo from an angle so you could see the dimension in the butterfly and the layering.

And that wasn't the end of her card.  When I opened it, I found this beautiful corner pocket with a glittery silver bookmark.  Wow, how to make a presentation!  Thank you so much Shirley! This is amazing!

Any other quotes you need done?

Live in the Moment, You are Amazing, Serenity

Charmaine Stack here again as guest designer for April. Thanks for all the lovely comments regarding my Mother’s Day cards. This time I have a couple of uncomplicated cards to share using the beautiful new stamps from Quietfire Design. The joy of these stamps is that they can easily take center stage and do all the “heavy lifting” in a card design.

First up, we have this card with an embossed navy front created with Spellbinders M-Bossabilities 3D Framed Labels 18. Using this type of embossing folder makes a card come together in a snap! I tapped Ranger’s Perfect Medium Stamp Pad across the raised cardstock and dusted Perfect Pearls Pewter powder (from the Aged Patina Kit) over top with a soft paintbrush. I cut out an aperture to strategically frame the“Live in the Moment” quote using a Spellbinders Labels 18 die. The quote was stamped with Versafine Deep Lagoon ink and clear embossed.

The Serenity Prayer is stamped on white cardstock using the Royal Satin Kaleidacolor Stamp Pad. I then cut it out with a Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Oval die. I mounted it on purple cardstock cut with the Spellbinders Floral Ovals die. Four red gemstones and a striped bow coordinate with the red cardstock card base. For photos showing how to do this small, neat bow, please visit this post on my blog.

And lastly, here is a card featuring “You are Amazing” from an earlier Quietfire stamp release. I stamped the sentiment in Brilliance Galaxy Gold on brown cardstock. The tree is created with a Dreamweaver Tree of Life stencil using Glossy Black Embossing Paste. After the paste had dried, I placed the stencil back over the tree and pounced Ranger’s Perfect Medium Stamp Pad over all and dusted on an assortment of Perfect Pearls from the Aged Patina Kit to colour the tree. I spritzed some gold shimmery mist across the panel. I rounded the top corners on a sage green base card, then did the same with the brown panel and drew around the edges and across the torn bottom with a gold leafing pen. Simple, but elegant – just like the sentiment! Thanks for visiting today and making my time as guest designer for April so enjoyable.

Mothers Hold Their Children's Hands, God Grant me the Serenity...,Live in the moment...

Robyn here, following once again in Holly's ink prints! If you haven't given this grid technique a try,I encourage you to do so!
I was on my way to a Fiber Arts Alliance gathering and wanted an easy to transport and stunning way to showcase the new stamps and how versatile they are.

I started out by practicing the technique using my brass rules and a grid mat to make my lines nice and straight. No measuring required with brass rules.
This is a 5 by 4  card stock with 3/4" squares

Then I got small!

I made 3 ATC's, starting with the individual words I pulled out of each stamp, thermal embossed in gold.
Then I stamped the Gingkos in VersaFine Olympia green( almost black- I'm allergic to black) and then my grid lines. I used the watercolors (i forget what-senior moment!) on the leaves.

I colored with Distress Broken China and Wild Honey mixed with Scattered Straw.

I decided to mount the ATC's on a fan fold base bordered in
gold acrylic paint.

The back was looking bare, so I added ATC's with the full quotes-keep it simple!

Hope over to my blog for a bit of a back story(pun intended!)

Please post your creations on our Facebook page. We love to see what inspires you!

MODERN GRID- GOD GRANT ME

Hi Everyone! Hope you're having a wonderful Easter weekend and Happy April Fool's day!
I have a technique for you that will fool your eye. The butterflies appear to be closer than the grid background.

I began by stamping BUTTERFLIES onto white cardstock using JET BLACK ARCHIVAL INK.

I drew evenly spaced lines, staying between the butterflies. Laying my cardstock on grid paper helped to keep the cardstock staright and the lines correctly spaced. My BLACK PIGMA MICRON 05 PEN worked perfectly and is permanent so there will be no bleeding when colour is added.
The cork backed ruler prevents smudged lines by having the ruler edge just off the cardstock. If you are using a flush edge ruler, be careful to lift it straight up. Or flip it over. Quite often, flipping it results in the edge being raised off the cardstock, avoiding smudges.
I used 3/4" spacing for my lines.

Using RANGER DISTRESS INKS I randomly coloured some of the squares and all of the butterflies.
All of the colouring was done by dabbing the ink pads onto an acrylic block and picking it up with a wet paintbrush.
Once the ink dried it was time to add some details.

I drew dashes and dots on some of the squares. Again, totally random.
I stamped GOD GRANT ME  on another piece of white cardstock, then cut it out with SPELLBINDERS CLASSIC OVALS
I inked the edge of the oval with the same black ink and once dry, sponged with worn lipstick distress ink.

I attached the grid panel to black cardstock, then onto an orange card base from my stash. I popped up the oval using foam tape.

There is a lot of freedom with this technique. You get to choose everything! The images, the spacing of the grid lines, the colours and the doodles. Keep it random and keep it fun!

I love this quote and the way it's designed- just beautiful.

I hope you try this technique and share it with us.

Thank you for stopping by!

God Grant me the Serenity....Live in the Moment...Mothers hold their children's hands...

Robyn here, excited to be sharing several takes on one of Quietfire Designs newest hand lettered quotes, and the evolution of a card.

Suzanne recently shared a comment that one reason folks like her stamps, is,  the same stamp can be used in so many different ways, form simple to complex designs.

"How long did it take you to make that?" is the most asked comment I get on the blog and live demoing.
My flip answer is,
"On a good day just the right amount of time and on a bad day a bit longer."

This first ATC took less than five minutes
( not counting thinking up the idea).
Simply stamped with VersaFine Sepia and colorized with Distress Old Paper.

Adding just one new element- a hand drawn and inked border, this second ATC took under 10 minutes.

Jumping ahead just a bit, on the third ATC I added a backing panel from stash, a second layer embossed with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots (if I could have just one embossing folder this would be it), and stamped and thermal embossed clear on some tracing vellum. Maybe 15 minutes.

Which brings us to the lead card.
The card layer front is embossed with the stripes, and the back panel for the Quote is Spellbinders Curved matting Basics  B
- be sure to label these first thing-
and Scalloped Labels One and Labels One.
I laced some ribbon through one of the Spellbinders Celtic Accents to finish it off.

So, 1 stamp, 3 ink pads, 2 embossing folders, some misc stash ...add your imagination and the possibilities are endless!
Any of the new stamps can be used in this way- simple to elegantly complex.

Comments and Questions always welcomed.

For this next quote, there was a bit of a challenge tracking down the author.  We finally decided that it belonged to Fanny Crosby who was a blind American hymn writer.  Here is a link to the Wikipedia information about her. Wonderful!
