Mixed media "Amazing" butterfly jar

Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here sharing a bright and cheerful upcycled mini-jar.  The jar was too cute to put in recycling so I decided to create a happy and inspirational jar for my work desk.  The stamps "You are Amazing":

and "Be Yourself" (from The Woods Would Be Very Silent stamp set):

were perfect for the project!

After cleaning the jar, white gesso was layered.  Distress Crackle (in Picket Fence) was applied and air dried.  Next Distress Spray (Mowed Lawn) and Dylusions Spray (Cut Grass) were both spritzed on the bottle.  Inka Gold (in Gold) was added along various edges.  Last, white paint was flicked randomly on the bottle.  The bottle was now ready for the papers.

Both sentiments were stamped onto Graphic 45 papers, fussy cut and mounted on Graphic 45's Nature's Sketchbook papers.  Butterflies were also fussy cut and layered as shown.  Below are photos of the completed jar:

 The stamps make me smile!

 Such a bright and cheerful jar...will be so pretty on my desk.

"Sing as if no one is listening"

Hello Crafty Friends!  Kathy Jo here sharing a happy, summer sing card using Quietfire Design's lovely "The Woods Would be Very Silent" stamp set:

The stamp set pairs up perfectly with BoBunny's recently released Secret Garden collection.

The sentiment was stamped onto ivory card stock using Distress Ink in Dusty Concord.

It was as if the papers were made for the stamp set...such a sweet pairing!

HOW BEAUTIFULLY LEAVES GROW OLD- CARD

Hi Everyone! This is Holly, and I'm sharing a couple cards today that have the same masked design, yet look so different.

I began by cutting my tree mask, using MAPLE TREE-FOUR SEASONS

e-cut file. You get SO MUCH with this file! I just need the tree today.

I laid the tree mask on white card stock, off to the side a bit, then sponged on DISTRESS INKS, peeled paint, fired brick and stormy sky. I applied the inks more heavily around the tree and card edges. Using the same inks, I stamped the leaves randomly, hoping for a breezy day look. The sentiment was stamped with jet black ARCHIVAL INK. The sentiment and leaves are from HOW BEAUTIFULLY THE LEAVES GROW OLD stamp set. Love it!

On a scrap of white card stock, I stamped a few more leaves, cut them out, and stuck them to the lower area of the card.

So simple, I had to give you another one.

The second card starts with stamping Friendship is a Sheltering Tree (FRIENDSHIP QUOTEMARKS SET) all over the white card stock, using dried marigold and antique linen distress inks. The tree mask was placed over the stamping, again to the left side a bit, then sponged over with faded jeans, broken china and chipped sapphire distress inks. 

Two stamps from THE WOODS WOULD BE VERY SILENT  were stamped on white card stock, then cut with Spellbinders CLASSIC OVALS. The ovals were sponged around the edges with more antique linen and dried marigold ink. All three pieces were then edged with jet black archival ink by rolling the edges against the ink pad.

The ovals were attached with foam tape and black gems were added to the card base.

I hope you try masking. It provides an easy background for your card.

Guest Designer - Julia Dunnit - Part 1

Hello.
Read gently, please - I’m a bit shy today. My name is Julia, I’m a blogger over at www.stamping-ground.blogspot.com. Being a blogger meant that it was only a matter of time until someone ‘enabled’ my discovery of Quietfire Design. 

 

I discovered stamping about 20 years ago; put down my sewing needle and turned irrevocably to paper and ink. I still love stamps above all, and I’m a font junkie. I have friends who say that I’m unable to make a card without having some words on the front.  They are probably right. Quietfire Design has become another of my reasons for using the written word – why wouldn’t you when they are all so beautifully lettered? So it makes sense to accept an invitation to guest on the DT right? Ignorance is bliss.  I had no idea how self critical and terrified I could become!  Ah well...’face the fear and do it anyway’.

 So now, allowing for my amateur status in all things, have a look at what I’ve been making….

 I used good watercolour stock and dripped Distress Stain onto the wetted area, then used the heat gun to dry it because I'm too impatient to wait. Next, I die cut it (it's a Joy die) and ran a silver Krylon pen around the edge.  You can't tell, but the text is embossed - Versacolour Imperial Blue and embossed with clear powder.  Nor can you tell that the Dragonfly is highlighted with silver Glamour Dust.  As was my face, and of course my decolletage....clumsy, moi?


While I was squashing the Distress stain against the corner of an acrylic block to produce enough liquid to drip onto the wet water-colour paper, I had another idea and decided to 'go grand' so that I could use one of my favourite stamps; it’s from this set. If there's a trick to this, it's to stamp the text and emboss it before you do anything else, so that the plastic surface of the embossing can resist the inks. I used white embossing powder to maintain the contrast.



Credit of course, to Sizzix and T. Holtz Esq for the die, and to Provocraft for the embossing folder. You can see too that I can’t tell when I've finished, so I used a white gel pen to doodle a border top and bottom and then to 'stitch' some of the coloured blobs (technical term) together.

THE WOODS WOULD BE VERY SILENT- CARD

Hi Everyone! Holly here today and I have a card for you that uses one of my favourite stamp sets-   THE WOODS WOULD BE VERY SILENT 

Using some papers from KAISERCRAFT THESE DAYS PAPER PACK  I stamped  the sentiments  with Jet Black ARCHIVAL INK, then sponged Rusty Hinge and Peeled Paint  DISTRESS INK around the edges, and to colour the swirls peeking out.

  The cute little bird was stamped on white cardstock, then cut out with scissors.

A few pearls were added to complete the card.

I love the look of this stamp set and the positive message it sends.

eCut Chickadee - Sing As If - HB

It's Yogi here and my turn again BIG GRIN. I love the "Chickadee" and that word "Sing" eCut files, and the new Illuminations set, so couldn't resist using them. I'm also using my newest stencil from Memory Box. I had mentioned to my friend when I was buying it that I knew I was going to curse, but bought it anyway... and I was right. All the loose protrusions just want to catch on my sponge... So I decided to give it a light spray of Krylon Easy Tac - YES!!! So here are all the directions for this card.

Side folded my white cardstock (5"w x 7"h). Used a Memory Box stencil ("Brilliant") and lightly sprayed the back of it with Krylon Easy Tac, then carefully sponged Distress colors (Mustard Seed, Dried Marmalade & Worn Lipstick). Used a piece of scrap cardstock as a mask and sponged some of the orange around the edges.

I eCut the chickadee (it's 4"w) and then eCut it again as a blackout. The blackout I colored yellow and the cut out I colored with a black Zig Writer marker, then applied Versamark and clear embossed. Adhered the two elements together. Adhered to card.

Colored a piece of 90# watercolor paper on both sides using Dylusions dye ink sprays (Sunshine Yellow, Pomegranate Seed & Cherry Pie) and lots of water. Tilted the paper to merge and blend colors, then dried with a heat gun. Die cut with Die-Namics "Mini Royal Rose" die set. Used a bead making tool to coil the flower, then let it expand and glued it down. When the glue dried I adhered it to the card.

eCut the word sing, then again as a shadow. The top layer I sponged with the Distress pads, then with the Versamark pad and embossed with Sticky embossing powder, sprinkled with Distress "Star Dust" glitter and heat set again. The shadow layer I colored with the black marker, then adhered the two elements together and onto the card.

Stamped the rest of the "Sing" quote with Versafine Black Onyx.

Stamped the "Happy Birthday" (10 tiny stamp set) with the black and cut it out like a speech bubble, sponged a bit of Distress around the edges and used a colored pencil to outline it, then adhered to card.

On the inside I stamped the "Illumination" border, then the Italic capital "D" then the rest of the word all using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossing. Used colored pencils (red & a yellow) and a Lyra Splendor Blender to decorate the letters. Wrote in the rest of the saying with a Zig Writer.

Used the scarp cardstock and the sponge to color the edges.

The Woods Would be Very Silent - Card



Hello Everyone and happy Friday, Terre here hoping you have a safe and wonderful Holiday. Here in the United States Monday is Labor Day and that means an extra day off of work! I hope you have been enjoying all of the wonderful new stamps you have been seeing here at Quietfire Design, for this beautiful card I am using "The Woods Would Be Very Silent".

 

I fussy cut around the cute little birds, colored them with some Copic Markers and attached them to my Spellbinders S4-328 Foliage die template die cuts.

 

The base of my card is Spellbinders Detailed Scallop Card Creator and embellished with some Want2Scrap 72 Count Black Pearls. I attached all of my card pieces using my Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry. The Woods Would Be Very Silent Ornaments

Here is a new stamp sets that you are sure to want to add to your amazing collection of Quietfire Designs. This one is called The Woods Would Be Very Silent, I create a new handmade ornament each holiday for my neighbors and attach them to a box of homemade treats so it is never too early to start creating for the holidays and Quietfire Designs makes it easy. This ornament is really quick and simple to create, simply stamp your image on white cardstock, add some buttons around the outer edge to create dimension, paint on glitter glue using a paint brush and embellish with some holiday trinkets and there you have a handmade ornament!

The Woods Would Be Very Silent - New Stamps!

Welcome to our newest stamp set!

 

 

I've loved this quotation for a long time.

This stamp set brings a little bit of encouragement with three calligraphic sentiments as well as two pointed pen ornamental birds, one classical and one chubby little chickadee. Love chickadees! And I managed to create an ornamental bird after saying I couldn't for years.

(for the calligraphers:  I used Mitchell Roundhand Nibs for the broad-edged lettering and Higgins Eternal Ink .  The pointed pen was a Gillott 303 using Higgins Eternal.  All artwork was done on either Canson Pro Marker Layout Paper or Boris #37 Layout Paper.)
