Strong, Your Only Choice

Happy Monday All!!  It's Wendy here today. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and is ready to get this week started!!

When it came time for me to create for this post, I got out all of my Quietfire Design Stamps and read all of the sentiments, which are ALL wonderful, but You Never Know How Strong You Are really yelled out at me today.  I have had a lady I know on my mind quite a bit lately.  She is undergoing treatment for the THIRD time for Ovarian Cancer.    This sentiment from Quietfire Design just hit the nail on the head.

I chose the lovely teal color, because that is the ribbon color for ovarian cancer and I love teal and navy blue together!!

Quietfire Designs for Clothing.....You BET!!!!

I am sure by now you have figured out that I am in LOVE with the Silhouette Cameo and all of the cool things that can be made with it. Well, today won't be any different, except this time I didn't make a paper crafting product or home decor item.  Today I made a garment, a useful kitchen garment, an apron.

I am in luck in my love of the Silhouette Cameo, because Suzanne Cannon has FABULOUS designs sold in the Silhouette Online Store!!

Today I am going to share two ways you can use Heat Press Vinyl to create fun clothing, hats and anything you can iron on.

I started with another clearance bin item, lime green apron.

Using the Silhouette Cameo software I was able to import the image from the Silhouette Online store, "flip" the image horizontally and cut.  Easy peasy, puddin' -n- pie!!!

Now you can see why you have to flip the image before you cut.  Heat Transfer Vinyl has a clear,  glossy,  medium tack adhesive transfer sheet that is a barrier for the heat transfer vinyl and the actual heat press.

When you apply the heat transfer material to the Silhouette Cameo cutting mat, the clear, glossy side is the side that is stuck to the cutting mat.  The dull or muted side is where the image will cut.

After the image is cut and you weed off the extra vinyl, flip the image onto you garment and your ready for heat.

I am going to show two ways that heat transfer vinyl can be used.

With my image in place, I put my garment on my 15" heat press.  My  temperature setting is 360 degrees.

A teflon sheet between my garment and the actual heat part of the press.  Close the lid for 15 second.  My press has a timer, so it tells me when my shirt is complete!!  Yeah for that.  Not one burnt shirt yet.  haha.

My timer has gone off and the image is applied to the apron.  Yeah!!

Here is the second method.  Just to be upfront, this way will take 20 to 30 minutes.

Place your garment and cut image on an ironing board, place a press cloth or any light weight cloth over the transfer sheet of the image and the garment.  You want to do this, because you will be applying as much pressure as you can with your household iron over the image.  Prolonged heat to the transfer sheet will cause warping and possibly a bit of melting plastic to your iron and garment (BIG NO NO!!).

Continue to apply pressure to your iron over the image.  You will need to lift the press cloth and transfer sheet from time to time to see how progress is coming.  If your project is taking 20 to 30 minutes.  That is normal.

I hope that this quick tutorial has inspired you to look at Suzanne Cannon's Designs in a whole new way and another way to use your Silhouette Cameo.

Have a fabulous day!!!

Love, Love, Love You Forever Valentines!!!!

Oh how I love Valetines Day!!  I love all the "lovin" going on.  I love pink, hearts and just "lovin" on people!!!

Making Valentines Day cards kind of comes pretty easy to me.  Quietfire Designs new release, Calligraphic Love Bits made the card I had in mind perfect!!  The smaller sentiments fit exactly where I wanted on this smaller card or what could be a gift tag.

The card from was created using Spellbinders Nested Heart die.  I cut the die with a die cutting machine and then dry embossed the shape using a rubber mat and a die cutting machine.

While the patterned paper was still in the die, I rubbed Ranger Distress Ink Walnut Stain over the die (that was acting like a stencil) onto the paper.    I then stamped the "love you forever" sentiment with brown pigment ink and heat embossed detail clear embossing powder.

Onto the another piece of patterned paper,  I traced around the nesting die again and cut it out by hand to it was just a bit bigger than the die cut.  Using adhesive dimensional I adhered the card front to the card back.

With a two inch piece of kraft card stock, I scored a 1/2 inch edge to adhere to the back of my card panel to create a sentiment panel.  I stamped the smaller fun little sentiments and beautiful heart to the inside.

You still have a few days to create your loved ones special Valentines!!  Rush over to the Quietfire Design web page, Pinterest Page and Facebook Page and get tons of inspiration from all of the fabulous design concepts you can see there.  You can also follow the Quietfire Designs Designer Blog and you share some "lovin" with the Quietfire Designers.

Simple Creations with Quietfire Designs Digital Files

HI!!!  It's Wendy Jordan and today I am sharing a simple gift creation using Quietfire Designs digital files, a Silhouette Cameo digital cutting machine and software and vinyl.

This entire post was RIDDLED with technical difficulties on the user's  (ME) part.  The video below is a screen video of the file being  created in the Silhouette Cameo Designer Edition software.  I had plans of actually videoing the creation of the gift, BUT my wonderful son borrowed my video camera over the weekend and left it with a dead battery.  Gotta love sharing!!!

Anyhoooo…onto the important stuff…..

The file has been created and is being cut by a Silhouette Cameo.  I used red Oracal 651 vinyl.  I am applying the design to the glass of a 5 x 7 photo frame and I don't anticipate any harsh condition for the gift, but none the less, 651 will do the trick.

Here is the design after being weeded and transfer paper has been applied.
I used R Choice Clear Transfer Sheets.  They are the perfect amount of tack for any project.

The design has been applied the glass and has been burnished.  The blue tool to the right is a burnishing tool.  I rub it over the design to adhere the adhesive from the vinyl to the glass.

See how easily the transfer paper comes off of the design and the glass.  Piece of cake.

Remember in the video how I flipped the design horizontally for cutting?  Now that the design is right way, can you see that you can't feel the vinyl on the outside of the glass?

The finished gift!!
I placed a white piece of card stock on the back of the design, but one of my favorite things to do is create a "floating" frame.  It is so simple.  Hot glue the glass to the frame from the inside and leave the back of the frame off.  You can then hang your frame not the wall and it looks as if the frame and design are floating.

Thank you so much for watching and reading along.  I apologize for the not having the second part of my project on video.  Dang kiddos!!

Enjoy your week and I will see you next time!!!

The Door Was Marked "You"…Quietfire Design New Release

Hello there!!!   My name is Wendy Jordan and this is my first post as a new member of the Quietfire Design Team!  I have received such a warm welcome and am thrilled to be here.  As I am sure you all are, I am wild about Quietfire designs.  The stamps, the digital files….I could go on.

Here is a bit about me… I live in Western Montana, a stones throw from the Idaho border, I have a super husband, four children (we have a blended family), one boy, 20 and three girls, 17, 11 and 10.  We have four Labradors and 7 chickens.   My husband and I both own our own businesses and I am currently obsessed with knitting and crochet.  I must do it everyday to live,   haha!!  In addition to designing for Quietfire Design, I also am a Design Team member for Dreamweaver Stencils.  I'd love it if you would follow my blog, Paper Therapy.

We have a wonderful piece of paradise.  Here is a photo taken from my back porch!

There you have it!!    Now onto the important stuff!!

Today I created with one of the latest and greatest, The Door Was Marked "You".

The sentiment was stamped on a  background that I made by mixing three Versa Magic Chalk Inks, Pink Petunia, Perfect Plumeria and Malted Mauve.  I added the colors to a craft sheet and applied with a brayer to white card stock.

The sentiment was stamped with Pearlescent Crimson Brilliance pigment ink and heat embossed with detail clear embossing powder.

Spellbinders dies are one of the best products to compliment Quietfire Designs amazing stamps.  You don't have to look far to find a combo of the two products that are perfect for each other.

For my card, I cut the Spellbinders Fleur De Lis Doily Accents border die.  I cut two of them and slightly shifted to over lap each other.  Pearl Accents from Ranger top off the femininity of this card.   As I wrote this the last sentence, I just realized that this a sentiment I would use on a card that I would give my husband, but I can't give him a pink card.  I will have to make another with masculine colors.  Watch for it on my blog.

Thank you for taking the time to read my inaugural post!!

Supply List:
Stamp: Quietfire Design
Ink: Tsukineko Versa Magic, Tsukineko Brilliance Ink
Embossing Powder: Stampendous
Dies: Spellbinders
Accents: Ranger

Christmas is the Day - Stamping & Digital Cutting

Happy Friday!!
Wendy Jordan, guest designer, checking in again today with another fabulous Holiday Card made with a Quietfire Design's Christmas is the Day set.

I love Suzanne's designs from the Silhouette America store.  I think by now, I own them all!!!
The Christmas Tree Calligraphic image available at the Silhouette America Store is also an image from the Christmas is the Day set of nine stamps.

I used a dark card stock and I will explain why in a moment.
The settings I used on the machine were for plain card stock

  • Speed 3
  • Thickness 33
  • Blade 3

With a bit of spray adhesive on the back I placed my die cuts where I wanted them on my card stock.  I them colored the entire sheet with my Copic Air Brush system.  I used an array of greens until I achieved my desired color.

Desired color and airbrushing complete.

To finish the card panel I stamped both sizes of trees from the Christmas is the Day set in between my masked trees.  The Merry Christmas is also from the same set.  I stamped and heat embossed on vellum and added a bit of brown ink to the vellum.

The reason I like to use dark card stock as masks is that I can add color over the top, as in this case. I cut black Christmas trees, was able to air brush over the entire top of them with multiple shades of green and I am still able to use them as black trees on a different card.  The sentiment is another from Quietfire Design, Hold on to the Spirit of Christmas.

Thank you for joining me today!!  I hope you enjoyed this post!!
Happy Stamping and cutting!!

Snowflakes Spray and Christmas is the Day Card

Wendy Jordan here from Paper Therapy so thrilled to be able to guest design for Quietfire Design this month!!!
I am the owner of  Designed By You, an embroidery and personalizing gift shop.  I also love creating with stamps, stencils, markers and pretty much anything else I can get my hands on.  I am currently a designer for Dreamweaver Stencils and have had the honor to design for Stampendous and Skipping Stones Designs.

Quietfire Design has beautiful calligraphy word art stamps as well as GREAT cutting files and Silhouette America Cut files.

I started my project with the Snowflake Spray Card cut file that can be found in the Silhouette America Online store.

The file is designed to cut a spray of snowflakes and the card base with a perforation for folding in one cut.  In my Silhouette software I had to do a few modifications to make the mask I was looking for to achieve my background.  Here are the steps I made…

  •  Ungrouped the image and removed the cut for the card base and the perforation
  •  I duplicated the image, flipped it vertically AND horizontally.  In the below photo, I also added a gray background so you could see what the cut file will look like on your screen.
My end result  is a mask, so it is important the cut is exactly how I want to place it on my card base.

For this project, I cut removable clear Contact Paper.

I cut a piece that would be fitting to the size of my project, placed it on the Silhouette cutting mat, with the paper protective backing down.   The contact material was face up on the mat.   My settings for cutting this type of material are:

  1. Speed #1
  2. Thickness #9
  3. Blade #2

With the above settings, I achieved a great cut, that didn't cut through the protective paper backing.

Once the design is cut, remove all of the extra pieces that are unneeded while the paper protective backing is still attached to the Contact Paper.  In this case, I removed all of the cut snowflakes, because I will be applying ink to those areas.  In the photo below is what the mask lookes like after I have removed all the extra snowflakes and removing the paper backing, but before applying it to my card stock.

You will now understand why it is important to be using removable Contact Paper.  Place your mask, sticky side down onto your card stock and trim around the edge of your card stock.  You will want to trim, so ink isn't applied where it isn't wanted.  Apply your ink, chalk, paint or the medium desired to the snowflake area.   Due to the sticky nature of the Contact Paper, you will see that ink is only where the snowflakes will be.  The mask isn't shifting, making unclear images.  Once the desired color and coverage has been achieved remove your contact paper.

THE PERFECT BACKGROUND!!!  I LOVE IT!!!

I was lucky enough to stamp two gorgeous images from a Quietfire Design new release, Christmas Is The Day, a great set of 9 stamps.

The sentiment was stamped with embossing ink and heat embossed with Detail White EP from Stampendous, my fav!!!

The Flourished Holly Circle was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa and I used Copic Sketch Markers to color the holly leaves.  (Copic Sketch G40, G43, G46).  The Flourished Holly Circle is accented with Spellbinders Parisian Motifs die cut.

The background, the decorative circle and sentiment were given an extra element of shimmer with Dreamweaver Stencils Iridescent Memory Mist.  The is the best shimmer spray in the market.

Thanks for taking  peek at my Quietfire Design creation today!!
See you in a few days for another fun design!!
