Here is Judi's fabulous project!
Thank you for
inviting me to be today’s guest designer. My projects are a pair of mini totes
made of wood that can be found in the unpainted wood products department of
many craft stores. They’re the perfect size for storing Artist Trading Cards,
pens and a small note pad, or a few makeup brushes. Put one at each person’s
place as a party favor, make some for gifts, and be sure to make one for
yourself!
Pick your favorite
Shimmer Sheetz color (shown: Amethyst Gemstone) and choose the rest of the
elements in your project to coordinate. You’ll need paints for Tote #1; Shimmer
Sheetz, alcohol inks, and peel-offs for Tote #2.
Instructions - Tote #1:
1. Base-coat the wooden
mini tote, inside and out, with acrylic paint in a color that coordinates with
the Shimmer Sheetz you’ve selected. Use a stencil brush or craft sponge to dab
on two or more additional colors on all sides of the exterior of the tote, one
of them a metallic color like copper (as shown), gold, or silver. Allow paint
to dry thoroughly.
2. Back a piece of
Shimmer Sheetz with Elizabeth Craft Designs Clear Transparent Adhesive Sheet.
Die cut the word Believe, following the instructions in Els van de Burgt’s YouTube
video. A Metal Adaptor Plate is required for cutting Shimmer Sheetz. If you
have a Big Shot Machine use a Precision Base Plate.
3. Remove the backing to expose the adhesive and position the die cut Believe on the front of the tote at an uphill angle as shown.
Instructions – Tote #2:
1. Paint the tote as
described in step 1 for Tote #1, leaving the front of the tote unpainted except
for the edges.
2. Place the tote on
top of a piece of paper and use a pencil to trace around the front to create a
cutting pattern. Cut out the pattern.
3. Alter a piece of
Shimmer Sheetz that is slightly larger than the cutting pattern with two or
more alcohol inks, one of them a metallic color like gold (shown), copper, or
silver. Ink-altered Shimmer Sheetz can be the same color as the die cut word
Believe or a different color – as shown: it is the same Amethyst Gemstone. Back
the piece with Clear Transparent Adhesive Sheet.
4. Alter gold leaf
and gold lace border peel-offs with one or more alcohol inks in coordinating
colors.
5. Die cut the word
Believe following step 2 for Tote #1.
6. Use the cutting
pattern from step 2 to cut Shimmer Sheetz to fit on the front (unpainted) side
of the tote. Remove backing to expose adhesive and place the Shimmer Sheetz
onto the tote.
7. Place the word
Believe at an uphill angle on the Shimmer Sheetz-covered front of the tote. Add
altered leaf and lace border peel-offs to complete the project, trimming
peel-offs as needed.
Other Options:
*Instead of the word
Believe, use a different die from Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words Collection.
(Thinking of You, Merry Christmas, and Hello fit without trimming; Happy
Birthday and Season’s Greetings will need to be trimmed a bit for the best
fit.)
*Instead of a mini
tote, decorate a wooden box, pencil jar, cigar box, or other container.
*Make holiday cards,
tags or other projects using painted cardstock or altered Shimmer Sheetz in
combination with die-cut adhesive-backed Shimmer Sheetz words.
