The Earth Laughs in Flowers - Watercoloured Card Technique

Hello and Happy Monday! Kim here on the Quietfire Creations blog again. I am just returning from a week in Las Vegas and must say...I am so ready to be done with winter! Funny how we adapt so quickly and fully to warmer temperatures! With that being said, let’s create with lovely stamp set, The Earth Laughs in Flowers!

This simple technique is one of my favourites and can be quite relaxing to do. Just what I needed after a very ‘people-y’ and busy week away!

I stamped my flower image onto a piece of water colour paper with Ranger Archival Black Ink. Using a stamp positioner, I layered my ink about 4 times. I find that water colour paper requires multiple impressions to achieve a crisp, inked image. It’s important to use an archival ink so the next steps do not cause the image to bleed.

Once the image was stamped I used a narrow strip of painter’s tape to my edges, creating an even border around my image. Be sure the tape is pressed down on the inside edges.

Spritz the paper with water.

You’ll want a nice amount of water on your working area, but not pooling.

I colour my image with water colours. The spritz of water to the page allows your paint to flow onto the image, add more as required or pick up excess water/colour with a small piece of paper towel and a light touch.  

Once your image is dry, your paper will flatten. Sometimes it needs a bit of help, I use an dry iron with paper towel or parchment paper placed over painted image.

Lastly, I stamped my sentiment, again using multiple layers of ink to get a crisp image. I love the look of the image and sentiment extending past the edges. It creates an interesting contrast to the water coloured focal point.

Thanks for checking into the blog. Hoping this card inspires you to pull out some water colour and play. Don’t overthink the process, water colours are very forgiving and are perfectly imperfect!

Happy Birthday with Butterflies

Hi Quietfire friends it's Teresa here with a brand new card i created using the Happy Birthday Clear set of stamps from the "A Way with Words" collection.  This set has lots of gorgeous stamps in it so it was really hard to pick.  But there are always lots of birthdays in our family so i can always do more.

The papers i used for my card are from a new line from Prima called Lavender.  It's filled with gorgeous roses and butterflies and it's perfect to use for spring.  You could even pull out your favorite Mother's day stamp and use it too.  (Click HERE for mother's day stamp ideas).

A Valentine's Gift Box for You

I am getting started early on a couple of gifts i want to give this year for Valentines day so today i am sharing one of them i did to upcycle a box i found left over from Christmas.   I just got a brand new pad of paper from Kaiser craft so i paired it with one of my favorite Quietfire stamp sets called "Just for You" and made this pretty flowered box that i can fill with something special to give.  And it doesn't have to be pink... sometimes it's more special to give them gifts in what colors they love :)

As you can see this is a beautiful set of flourished stamp sentiments with lots of cute words in it to use for Valentines or any special projects that you might need to make to give away.

Here is a closeup of the box and that beautiful "Love You" sentiment.  I made that cute flower from one of Becca Feeken's new dies and also the label that i stamped the sentiment on.  It has lots of old fashioned vintage charm.  And there is lots more from all of our team in the weeks ahead so be sure and check back for more inspiration from all of us.  Have a wonderful week.

Happy Birthday with New Elizabeth Craft dies

It's almost the beginning of my favorite season here in California and today i am sharing a new card with the new dies designed by Suzanne Cannon for Elizabeth Craft.  I used 2 dies for my card, one is the new smaller version of Happy Birthday that i just love and the other is that super adorable frame that you can make to go around it.  I used super basic papers and cut the dies from ivory and kraft cardstock and then added pretty fall flowers on the side to set the mood.  

And the dies cut like butter so you can make a whole set of these to give in different papers for gifts.

Hi and welcome to our Quietfire Design blog today.  It's Teresa here to share a quick card that i created with a few things i had in my stash and one of the Elizabeth Craft Dies from Quietfire.

To begin to make this card i used my Cricut to cut an ivory circle about 6 inches and also to created the scalloped border in green that goes around it. I glued the 2 together and then I added a tiny floral print across the front.  Then cut a double cut piece of the Congrats die in ivory to match the base of the card.  The tiny dots around the outside are done just from using a dark brown ink pen.  Sometimes it's nice to add simple things so that it's not so boring around the edges.  And then to finish i added some bits of ribbon and twine to make a bow and a pretty flower on top to match.  It took all of about 20 mins. to make and now i have a pretty card to give a friend for her graduation this week.

Yvonne here sharing a new card using Quietfire Design's stampset "I don't tell you enough"(a set of 5 stamps).

The card is really simple to make.

• Fold a white cardbase and layer with grey cardstock.
• Then glue upon a piece of  blue embossed cardstock and white cardstock.
• Stamp the Quietfire Design sentiment upon the white cardstock using a black inkpad.
• die-cut a silver border and glue upon the card.
• Finish the card with cotton lace, mulberry flowers and leaves, ribbon and self-adheisive pearls.

I hope my card is inspration to create your own beautiful Quietfire Design card.

Congrats on your Wedding Day...

It's Friday and time for another post celebrating our team mate Yvonne on her wedding this week.   We are all so happy for her and I am sure it is going to be a wedding to remember for the rest of their lives.  Today i made a card with the Congrats Way with Words die.  It's a simple card with embossed dies and flowers for the back round in pretty purples and white.

I love the Congrats die because there is so many ways that you can use it.  And it's really nice paired with some of the old and new sentiments in the stamp shop.  You can use the dies with just cardstock or try inking it up like a rainbow or even stamping clear ink on top and embossing with clear embossing powder to make it stand out even more.  I added tiny little rhinestones on the letters in a few places to pop it out a little more and a few on the back round to make it more sparkly.  Everything is better with bling!!

Here is a closer look at the die and the flowers that i put at the bottom.  Yvonne loves flowers so i thought i would do some pretty ones at the bottom for her.

The Earth Laughs in flowers...

Happy Monday to all of you!!  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and did something really fun and crafty.  I got out lots of things from my stash and a brand new stamp called "The earth laughs rose" and set to work to make something pretty.

To start my project I found a small wooden box in my stash that was bare wood.  It had a glass top on it but i decided to take it off and just create a pretty lattice design for the base and then color a pretty rose to put on top of it.  I stamped the flower and the sentiment first on white paper in a dark green ink and then embossed it in clear powder.  Then i colored it with 3 shades of Copic pens and 2 shades of green that matched really well.  When i finished i cut it all out and adhered it to the top of the box with 3D Foam dots by Scrapbook Adhesives.  It's really simple but i like how it came out.

For the box i painted it all white first and then after i added all the top pieces i went back and added some light pink paint and a bit of darker pink to shade it and match the flower.  And then i got a little crafty and added a stenciled design on the sides with white gesso.  I think i am going to sand it down a bit and paint a thin layer of white over it later but it was fun to try something new and think outside the box for decorating things.  Below is a photo of the things that i used for my project.  It's always good to see what new things others try so that you feel confident investing and trying it too.

I don´t tell you enough...

Sunshine, freedom and a little flower

Hi everyone it's Teresa here on this beautiful Monday with a pretty spring card that i did with the brand new stamp "Just living is not enough".  I wanted to really bring out the idea of the flower that was in the sentiment so i did it with some pretty papers from Teresa Collins i had in my stash.

I wanted to keep it simple and only use the papers so i layered a light cream piece of the printed paper on a white card and on top of that another layer of green and then the coral dot.  And i have lots of doilies so i slid one under the oval that i stamped on to give it a little lacier effect.  

I stamped the card with Ranger Archival ink in coffee to match the paper and then added some tiny white pearls dots around the outside edges and let them dry.  And to finish it i fussy cut one of the flowers out in the paper and then added 2 yellow ones over it and a few tiny roses.  It's super easy and simple and you could make a couple of them to send out to friends tonight.

The Greatest Strength....

I love new stamps and making fun things with them. I haven't done a really pretty flowery card in a long time so today i am using the new stamp called "The Greatest Strength" and some new papers i just got from Prima.

I made the card super simple for the backround just by cutting layers of paper and inking them around the edges to make them pop.  And then i made this pretty flower cluster with Prima flowers and some twine and cheesecloth that i had in my stash.  It's super feminine and it would be a great card to give to a special someone that you really appreciate and care alot about.

Celebrate your life

Hi everyone it's Teresa here on this beautiful Friday and welcome to the Quietfire blog.  Today i have a card to share that i did with one of the new "Way with Words" sentiment dies.  It's called "Celebrate" and i really love the way this one came out.  It's one of the those dies that you could use for so many occasions.  Weddings, Birthdays, Anniversaries and even for just those little milestones in life that you reach!!

My card is made with new paper from Kaisercraft called Fairy Dust.  The beautiful shades of aqua and purple made it easy to make a layered card and add the beautiful "Celebrate" sentiment on the top.  The flowers are simply fussy cut from the paper so you don't really need much to create it other than paper, adhesives and the die set.  

Directions to make this:

1. Cut aqua card to measure 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.

2. Cut purple paper 5 1/8 x 5 1/8 inches and glue on card.

3. Cut light grey paper 4 7/8 x 4 7/8 and then cut white printed paper 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 and glue together. Cut a small piece of the aqua fairy print 4 3/8 x 4 3/8 and glue them all together on card as shown.

4. Cut 2 small ovals in purple print paper.  Glue the larger oval on the card and then adhere the smaller oval with 3D Foam Squares.

5. Fussy cut flowers from paper and arrange on both sides of the card.  Hand cut leaves from the green printed paper and add to flowers.

6. Die cut the "Celebrate" die with white paper and glue on to the center of the card.  Enjoy!!

Sunshine to my heart card..

Hi Everyone it's Teresa here today to share a different kind of Valentine card with

all of you.  I wanted to do something pretty but not so mushy and pink like all the 

rest of the cards they have at this time of year.  So many of my students tell me that

they like other styles to give so i used the "You are the Sunlight" stamp for this one 

and i had the perfect paper in my stash to make it just right.

I have been all inspired to do easel cards lately so i created this one 

with a sunlight paper that i had in an Avery Elle 6x6 paper pad 

and lots and lots of flowers. The border paper also went perfect and

i just got that from Authentique.  

The circle die that i stamped on is from Spellbinders and is called

Splendid Circles and kind of reminded me of a big huge sun

 and all the foliage is from a die called Sprigs and a few from Foliage Flourish. 

 The flowers are from Prima and the rhinestone swirl is from Want2Scrap. 

And the pearls i did with Liquid pearls from Ranger. 

 It's different but i really like the yellow and white :)

Fresh for the New Year

Hi Everyone it's Teresa today and I am sharing a Friendship 

card that I did to finish out the New Year.  It has been a wonderful
year from me and this week gives me the chance to look back
and appreciate all that I did and good things that happened for the 

past year--- whether it be new friendships, family or an abundance
 of great memories! And now--- we get to look forward to a creative

 and prosperous New Year for 2014!

So my card today was made for a very special friend that I have
a had for a very, very long time.  I wanted to give her something really
 fancy and feminine so I used my favorite Gentle Thoughts stamp #5958 
and some of my favorite Spellbinders dies that you can get from

Quietfire's online store.  I used Mad Tea Party paper by 

Marion Smith for the base and a mix of pink and green patterned

papers and card stock to cut out my dies and the leaves and flowers.

The Spellbinders Gold Majesty Circles die had the perfect opening
 to stamp the friendship sentiment in the center with dark green ink

 and emboss it with clear embossing powder. 

To make the flowers I cut layers of petals from

the SB Rose Creation Die set and scrunched them and curled 

them and then glued them on top of each other.  The leaves

are from the Foliage die set and I also curled them just a little.

The other tiny foliage die is a fun one to fill in for flowers

called Corner Sprigs.  After I got my arrangement the way 

I wanted it, I glued it down with lots of foam dots and glue dots to 

really secure it.  I added a pretty white bow and some chunky glitter 

with clear adhesive all around the tops of the flowers. To finish 

it i added some tiny pink rhinestones just to make glisten 

a little bit more.  I hope that she likes it.. it was really fun to make.
