To Create - Caught In Crystal Tulip

One of the Quietfire Creations DT does a technique at the beginning of the month and this time it was Holly doing a "Caught In Crystal" technique. We can try the technique if we want or not - up to us... I've done alcohol inks on plastic, but never went further with the Diamond Glaze, glitter & tissue paper, so thought I'd give it a try. BIG GRIN.

So stamped my jumbo tulip (Inkadinkado) onto the clear plastic using Staz-On black and clear embossed. Note: I tried with Versafine and it never dried even after 24 hours... so wiped it off and re-stamped. PS Holly didn't clear emboss, and if you do, you have to be careful you don't warp your plastic.

Note: make sure your plastic is larger than you need, so you don't get the inks and Diamond glaze seeping underneath,

I didn't find my Diamond Glaze so used 3D Crystal Lacquer. I put several blobs in various areas of my flower and dropped alcohol inks (butterscotch, raspberry) into the blobs in the colors for my flower, and then my stem (meadow). Using the tip of a bamboo skewer, smeared and moved the blobs around. Added more blobs of lacquer and the blue (Pool) of the background, smeared it around, then sprinkled with Distress fine glitter "Star Dust", then scrunched up a piece of white tissue paper, un-scrunched and lay it over the whole of my background, leaving some of the wrinkles for texture. Set it aside to dry completely.

Trimmed it down and adhered it to my cream toned 5"w x 7"h card.

Die cut the corners from black cardstock, using Cuttlebug "Ornamental" die set. They're the negative pieces... Adhered them to the card with the lacquer.

Stamped the quote "To Create is to..." on a scrap piece of cream cardstock and clear embossed. Trimmed it around the quote and also used a circle die from Spellbinders and my hard rubber mallet to cut around areas. Adhered to card with the lacquer.

Spot the Difference!

Hello there, fellow Quietfire Design fans! This is Bibi from Nature's Print Shop, and I'm honored to be this month's Guest Designer. I'm a BIG fan of Suzanne's calligraphy stamps and I often use them in combination with stamps from my own company.


Today I want to show you two cards where I have used the exact same stamps and layout. By using different color combinations, the cards look very different.

First, let's be bold and dramatic!

The sentiment and swirly heart are both embossed with gold EP on a black panel, which is adhered to a gold panel in the center of a Black Iris Shimmer Sheetz. I used the Happy Valentines embossing folder (Crafts-Too) on the the Shimmer Sheetz,  and lightly sanded the raised pattern before smooshing over it with a black StazOn Ink pad. The Shimmer Sheetz was then adhered to a gold panel, using Be Creative Tape. I then adhered the gold panel to a black base card.

The gold embossed flowers and leaves are from my own rubber stamp company. I used foam tape under them for a 3D effect, and randomly added some glitter to the center and the petals.

And now, for a more subtle appearance.

This time I dry embossed a piece of white cardstock. I used the same embossing folder as above, but this time I turned the cardstock over so the other side of the pattern shows on my card. I gently smooshed some Distress inks over the dry embossed areas (Shabby Shutters, Spun Sugar, Scattered Straw). The sentiment, swirly heart and flowers are also stamped with Distress ink (Worn Lipstick). On the leaves (Nature's Print Shop), I used Distress Peeled Paint and Shabby Shutters.

In the center of the flowers, I used a combination of pink and green glitter. Combining two contrasting colors made the centers "pop".

Just like on the card above, I used foam tape to adhere the flowers.

I think the dark card was suitable for a guy, so I put it under my sweetheart's dinner plate the other day. No special occasion - just a token of my love (I'm such a romantic!) I gave the light colored card to a girl friend of mine on her birthday.

Love Where You’re At!

Good Monday morning!   Sherry here with you and I have a card to share today.



The sentiment, Love Where You’re At, was stamped on white cardstock and then die cut/embossed with the new Spellbinders Gold Labels Four.  While the paper was still in the die template, Antique Linen Distress Ink was sponged around the inner edges of the die.   



The flower was made with the Grand Peony Creations die template and the leaves were die cut from watercolor paper using Spellbinders Foliage.  



Behind the sentiment and the flower is a frame made using Spellbinders Labels One.

CAUGHT IN CRYSTAL TECHNIQUE

Hi Everyone! This is Holly bringing you another 'oldie but goodie' technique, hopefully inspiring you to give it a try.

 

 

I chose Where So Ever You Go , Butterflies / Dragonflies , and Flourishes 1 to creat the design elements on the transparency. I stamped them with Stazon Jet Black and was careful not to let the stamp slip while stamping on the transparency. You can see in the photo where I drew out and 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" rectangle on white paper to serve as a stamping guide. Once the ink dried, I flipped the stamped transparency over and put a piece of tape on either side to keep it in position.

 

 

Then I got the remaining supplies together- Diamond Glaze , Re-inkers , white tissue- slightly larger than the design area, glitter, and a craft stick for mixing.

I poured several puddles of Diamond Glaze onto the transparency, then put a drop of re-inker in each puddle. I mixed with the craft stick, then spread it out to the drawn lines that show through.

 

 



I sprinkled glitter here and there, then crumpled the tissue paper, slightly smoothed it out and laid it straight down onto the wet Diamond Glaze.

 

I pressed down the tissue until the entire surface was covered, making sure to keep some wrinkles in the tissue for texture. Then, I left it to dry for a couple hours.

*NOTE* It's important to prevent any Diamond Glaze from seeping under to the front side of the transparency. By keeping the working piece of transparency much larger than the design area, and keeping the Diamond Glaze in the design area, no Diamond Glaze gets under it.

 

 

You can see how much darker the project looks once it is dry. I removed the tape and trimmed the piece to fit my card front.

Hello Everyone Terre here with another creative card using Quietfire Designs amazing sentiments! For this particular card, I chose the "May Each Treasured Memory" stamp. Don't you just love how each of the sentiments you find here at Quietfire have just the right amount of curves and swirls, I think that is what draws me to them! You might also notice a couple of items from Spellbinders like the Butterfly Kisses M-Bossabilities and the Opulent Ovals die template you will find them right here at Quietfire Designs, who doesn't like one stop shopping?

Create WithOut Limits, Flourishes One, Crows

Robyn here, having more fun than -(fill in the blank) I want to say barrel of monkeys- and how fun is a barrel of monkeys?--- a girl with a new technique.

Holly's crumpled embossing technique filled me with "what ifs?".

I used a combo of my favorite stamps and some I rarely use.

This ATC started with stamping the medium sized flourish with VersaMark***hint-have two pads-one that you keep perfectly clean for watermarking and one for general stamping(and be sure to clearly mark them***** all over the white card and thermal embossed clear.

Forgetting to refer to Holly's excellant turtorial, I then added color, Distress blues and purples using the Ink blending tool.
Then I remembered to crumple, misted the paper with water a bit to aid crumpling and then added more color to highlight the highs and lows.
Sprayed with Perfect Pearls Mist- Pearl and glued it onto another card-the crumbling shrinks the paper, so I inked up the border and blended that in.

Not wanting to hide the background I stamped Create Without Limits on velum, thermal embossed with  a purple power and glued it on with Glossy Accents.

I love how the paper gets a leathery look.

The flourished crow was VersaMark stamped, thermal embossed clear on white card.
I covered the card with Distress stain- lemonade and pewter, dried it well then stamped the musical notes with VersaMark and embossed clear.

Time to crumple. I misted the paper on the back and crumpled and straightened several times till I liked it.
Now for the fun- I added first some more yellows, then black soot, and finally chipped sapphire- all with the blending tool.
Wipe the crow off with a damp cloth,
add Crows-themal embossed silver on velum and start on another!

This card began with the flourished egg stamped in silver. When that was dry, the small crow embossed clear.
Stained the card with persimmon , lemon and mustard, clear embossed the musical notes, blended some  more with sapphire and black soot.

Controlled crumple!
 I fan folded the card, ran Picket Fence stain on the folds, more random blending and when dry highlighted with Stardust pen clear.

The crown was stamped on vellum,thermal embossed with Ranger Detail Silver

The one on the left is a random clear, and on the right Ranger detail clear.

VersaFine Onyx on velum

 I recommend you make samples and keep them in a journal or on tags. Saves time and materials in the long run, and I think samples are fun!

Happy Valentine's Day - Resist Tech

My turn today BIG GRIN. And I'm using the Resist technique Holly showcased earlier this month. Love doing this resist... as well as using 3 stamps from the Valentine set - love this set... and the frame from the Happy Family set. OK so Valentine's day has passed you say... well I'm getting ready for next year's Valentine's day...

 I side folded my white card and ran it through my machine with the Couture Creations "Tied Together" folder, then sponged very lightly with a dirty pink sponge.

Stamped the flourished heart onto a piece of Speedball rubber, and cut around the image, leaving a small border. Used this rubber stamp and stamped with Perfect Medium randomly on some white cardstock, clear embossed. Spritzed with some water and crumpled the cardstock several times till I had the creases and cracks I wanted. Dried the cardstock. Sponged with Distress "Spun Sugar", "Picked Raspberry" & "Shaded Violet". Ironed off the embossing between some clean newsprint using a hot dry iron. Then stamped the "Flourished Heart" onto one of the solid hearts with the black and clear embossed. Trimmed down to fit my card edges and layered onto a Fuchsia colored cardstock.

Stamped the "Happy Valentine's Day" with the black on white cardstock, cut it out in a file tab shape and layered on to the Fuchsia cardstock, trimmed that and adhered it to the top of the card, then adhered my resist piece and trimmed to the edges of the card.

Stamped the quote and flourished frame with the black and clear embossed both. Then colored some areas with Sakura Metallic Gel Pens, moving the color with a waterbrush.

As a final touch, added Liquid Pearls "White Opals" dots on the embossed Tied Together design.

May Arts Ribbons at Quietfire!

This is the booth at the 2012 CHA conference



I fell in love with this creation.
I don't know who did it, but I really wanted to take it home with me!!

Every year at CHA, I gravitate towards the May Arts booth.  The colours and textures send me over the moon.  I took quite a few pictures of their booth last year, but this year, I took the plunge and placed an order with them.  I was pretty conservative.  It's a bit overwhelming! 

I blame this all on Becca Feeken!  She started my serious romance with ribbon on my card creations.  Okay, I had a little infatuation with it before.....

It would be no problem at all to spend many hours here admiring the ribbon.  As it was I dragged my poor sales person around and around.  I tried to be decisive.  Really. 

 Here are two ribbons that I purchased.  Unfortunately the blue one was out of stock, but should be here around the end of March. You may see the Quietfire "collection" in the rename category Ribbons and Textiles. Don't forget we have the Becca Bow Maker in stock. 

 

Here is this year's booth.  Yup, it's like a magnet to me!
