Resist - Friends Are Those & A Smile

I had an epiphany before leaving the house for Stampede today... came home and created the 2nd card. Just goes to show "What a difference a day makes" saying is just so true... I say below, I didn't want to use dark colors so veered away from some of Holly's technique. One tracked mind... The epiphany was I could use light stamping ink for my text and then not have to use dark colors to cover it up. DUH!!! So the 2nd card is below.

1st card: "Resist - Friends are Those"
And it's me again, Yogi. Holly did two techniques this month. For the resist technique she stamped several times to create background text, dried, then stamped with a solid image stamp and clear embossed (that was the resist part), then used a direct to paper technique with a dark blue to make the text/resist areas stand out and to hide the rest of the text. I tried the technique several times and although it worked, I couldn't get my head around using dark colors, so they landed in my "will use one day pile". I really needed light colors for a change.

But I did use a resist technique of words, stamping the "Friends" word with Perfect Medium and then clear embossing them. Sponging with Distress "Mustard Seed" & "Picked Raspberry". Stamped the quote "Friends Are Those" with Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed, die cut with Spellbinders circle set and sponged the edges with "Dried Marigold" & the raspberry. Layered it on to another circle die cut from textured cardstock, then onto card front.

I love the 2nd technique Holly used, creating texture on the copper piece. First you adhere some copper tape to white cardstock, run it through an embossing machine with an embossing folder several times - I used Spellbinder's m'bossibilities "Letters & Numbers" folder. Then flip it over and remove the embossing using a bone folder. What's left is TEXTURE. Now you could wipe on some rub ons to add depth in the crevices, but again,. I wanted something light... so left it alone. Die cut with Sizzix Tim's Movers a & Shapers die "Friends".

This card was very easy and quick to make, hope you give it a try.

2nd card: "Resist - Digi Flower - A Smile"
I used my electronic cutter to cut a flower (free digi cut flower) without the hole, sizing it to fit my quote and using it as a mask. Stamped the "A Smile"  using Perfect Medium, clear embossed and adhered my mask over the stamping. Then stamped the same quote all over my card using Distress "Pumice Stone".

Created a stencil, with various sizes of the same cut flower, adding a border and "welding" everything together, adding various sized holes in the centers of each flower, then cutting it out with my electronic cutter. Placed over my card and sponged Distress "Mustard Seed" very heavily all over, then went in with "Shabby Shutters" & "Spiced Marmalade", then used the edge of my stencil to sponge "Chipped Sapphire around the edges.

Used the original flower cut out (stencil part) to sponge "Broken China" around the whole quote flower, then went in with some "Picked Raspberry".

Added the green ribbon and bow (Quietifre Design "Solid 2 tone Olive/Celery)

As a final touch added various sizes of a pink toned rhinestones.

This card makes me smile - BIG GRIN
And you should see what the flower background stencil looks like now - it's gorgeous and will be a background for something soon...
