Be Brave, Each of Us has a Song to Sing

Hello Again!!!!  It's Wanda and I hope today finds you well!!!

I had fun putting this project together.  I started with Distress Oxide Inks onto Distress Mixed Media Heavystock paper.  I put the inks onto a craft sheet, sprayed with water, and dipped my paper in repeating until I was happy with it.

Next I did some layers of stenciling with the A Way With Words Dotty Stencil (from Quietfire Design or Elizabeth Craft Designs).  First I put the stencil on, sprayer some water, removed the stencil, blotted the paper and dried it.  This left light colored circles that you can make out a bit.  Next I put the stencil on and inked through it with Distress Oxide Salty Ocean.  Finally, using just the largest circles along the edges, I inked through with Snow Cap Pigment Ink.

The crow and the music are both from the Crows - Set of 9 stamp set.  After being sure the panel was completely dry and tapping an anti-static pad over it, I stamped the music and embossed it with Detail Black Powder.  I stamped the crow and embossed it with Black Sparkle Powder.  Each of Us has a Song is stamped with Archival Ink Jet Black, no embossing, and I wish I had embossed it or used a stamping platform to stamp it, but I didn't.  To help it show from the background a bit better, I used a water brush to brush water over that area, blotted off some of the color, and dried it.  I inked around the edges of the panel with Distress Oxide Frayed Burlap and finally embossed the edges with Black Sparkle Powder.

The next layer is paper cut from an old music book.  I crumpled the piece well, flattened it back out (but not too much), rubbed a Distress Ink Tea Dye pad direct to the paper, sprayed the paper with water, and dried it.

I die cut Be Brave (from Quietfire Design or Elizabeth Craft Designs) from black cardstock, set it on but it was just too much black.  I thought silver might work well so embossed the black words with Silver Embossing Powder...

but I didn't think they stood out enough so I embossed right over the silver with Wendy Vecchi's Cactus Blossom Powder - I liked that.  The final detail was dots of Cactus Blossom Enamel Accents.  It's all attached to black cardstock.

I hope you've enjoyed today's project and that you find some time to play with your inks and stamps this week.

Hugs, Wanda

A Ghoulish Scrapbook Layout with Crows and Halloween Wicked Stamps

Hello, Connie Nichol here with a spooky Halloween project featuring the Crows and Halloween Wicked stamp sets from Quietfire Design.  My oldest son went through the 'ghoul' phase when he was 9 and 10 - he wanted only to be a scary masked ghoul with a weapon and nothing else.  Sigh.

Here's the stamp sets I used - there are 9 stamps in the Crows set!  It's nice to have so many stamps to choose from when embellishing a scrapbook page - big and little, crows facing right and left - you're bound to find the perfect option.

Crows, set of 9 stamps - Mounted

One of my favourite stamps in this set is the musical note stamp.  Use it to create card backgrounds, or borders as I did here.  Just stamp the musical notes repeatedly below or adjacent to each other.

It looks just like another piece of patterned paper, especially when you pretty it up with some cardstock and a border punch.

Here's the Halloween Wicked Collection - also a lot of beautiful stamps to choose from.

I also made a card while I had everything out.....  so easy to stamp on a piece of patterned paper and embellish with a couple of stickers while all the bits and pieces of the creative scrapbooking process are laying about.  :-)  Happy Halloween!!

Supplies Used:  Simple Stories patterned paper and stickers, Quietfire Design stamps, Clearsnap Ink, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L tape runner and foam adhesive, Elizabeth Craft Design stitched rectangle dies, Pink Paislee alphabet letters, Martha Stewart border punch.

A Scary Halloween Layout - Guest Designer Connie Nichol

Hello everyone!  Today I created a Halloween layout featuring stamps from two Quietfire Design stamp sets, Crows and the Halloween Wicked Collection.

I have a lot of photos from when my kids were little and (not so) scary that I want to get scrapbooked.  Here’s what the stamp sets look like – there are a lot of different stamps in each set and they go so well together.  They are perfect for accenting a Halloween themed scrapbook page.

Halloween Wicked
I stamped the Venom/Eye of Newt stamp from the Wicked Collection onto the left side of a piece of cream coloured cardstock and then mounted three photos on the same sheet to form the main element on my scrapbook page.

I stamped and fussy cut crow (the largest from the Crows stamp set) was the perfect accent – note that I left a little border around the edge of the crow and adhered it with foam adhesive to make it pop just a little from the page.  I also brushed the crow with a little Crystal Effects to give it a bit of a glossy lacquered look.  Happy Halloween!

Each of Us Has a Song - Linda Lucas - Guest Designer

Hi, it is Linda here and I am excited to be back for my second post as the March Guest Designer for Quietfire Design - I love the sentiment I have used on today's card - my beautiful Nana insisted that everyone could sing - and she is right, but some voices have a rougher passage out! Just makes me smile!

The sets I have used are:

and

The Crows, set of 9 stamps set has so much potential.  I started by lightly stamping the music sheet onto the Fleur De Elegance die, then using the Die as a Stencil and sponging the inside of the Die with Golden Glitz and a sponge dauber.  The bird has also been stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black, then cut out by hand/fussy cut and popped up onto 3D Foam Squares.

The sentiment has been stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and cut out using the Classic Oval Die, the inside of the Die has been sponged using Delicata in Glistening Gold.  This has then been layered onto a Fleur De Elegance in white, using Crafty Foam Tape for dimension, followed by Labels Forty Decorative Accents, also popped up onto Crafty Foam Tape.  The completed layers have been adhered to the card base using double sided tape.

Finishing off by adding Mulberry Paper Roses and Want2Scrap Bling

Wicked!

Good morning!  Sherry here today and I have a Halloween card to share.  I’ve seen a number of Christmas cards being posted and I did think about it . . . but Halloween prevailed!

WickedFront

I found the background paper today while I was out running errands and was quite taken with the colors.  I love purple and black together for Halloween and it isn’t often that I see that color combination in a paper pad . . . so it just fell into my cart!    I used the Quietfire set, Crows, for the main image.

WickedFrontCloseUP

The flourished crow was stamped with VersaMark, embossed with a sparkly black embossing powder, and then die cut/embossed with Spellbinders Circles.  The bottom layer for the circle image was die cut/embossed using Spellbinders Stately Circles.  I love how the shapes in the circle match the background paper.

WickedInside

For the inside of the card I decided to use some of the scraps left over from the front, along with the Quietfire Digital Cutting File, Wicked.  Once I had “wicked” placed on the inside of the card, I decided it needed a little pop and outlined the word in black marker.  Wish I had thought to add a little pizzaz before putting in on the card.  Lesson learned!

Something Wicked Halloween!

Good morning!  Sherry here today with a fun and wicked Halloween card.  I’ve had this card in my mind for some months now and finally ordered the Crows so that I could get it completed.  You’ll need to envision that the crow is actually a raven however, because that was the inspiration for my card . . . Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven.

TheRaven

The poem was printed out on cardstock, then inked using the Wrinkle-Free Distress Technique, using Gathered Twigs, Dusty Concord and Wild Honey Distress Inks.  The edges were distressed and sponged with Gathered Twigs.

The raven and the sentiment, Something Wicked this Way Comes, from the Halloween Wicked Collection were both stamped on paper that had also been colored using the same technique and colors and above.   Both were stamped in black.  The sentiment was trimmed out and distressed.  The raven was die cut/embossed with Spellbinders Circles, layering in size, ending with the Scalloped Circles.

TheRaven2

Black cardstock was used for the base of the card and purple for a second layer.  “Tapping” from the Crow stamp set was stamped in white pigment across the purple paper to add some extra dimension.  A piece of Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe paper was trimmed and sewn to the purple layer.

The ribbon was dyed with Dusty Concord Distress Ink.

That’s all for me today.  Thanks for joining me.

Create WithOut Limits, Flourishes One, Crows

Robyn here, having more fun than -(fill in the blank) I want to say barrel of monkeys- and how fun is a barrel of monkeys?--- a girl with a new technique.

Holly's crumpled embossing technique filled me with "what ifs?".

I used a combo of my favorite stamps and some I rarely use.

This ATC started with stamping the medium sized flourish with VersaMark***hint-have two pads-one that you keep perfectly clean for watermarking and one for general stamping(and be sure to clearly mark them***** all over the white card and thermal embossed clear.

Forgetting to refer to Holly's excellant turtorial, I then added color, Distress blues and purples using the Ink blending tool.
Then I remembered to crumple, misted the paper with water a bit to aid crumpling and then added more color to highlight the highs and lows.
Sprayed with Perfect Pearls Mist- Pearl and glued it onto another card-the crumbling shrinks the paper, so I inked up the border and blended that in.

Not wanting to hide the background I stamped Create Without Limits on velum, thermal embossed with  a purple power and glued it on with Glossy Accents.

I love how the paper gets a leathery look.

The flourished crow was VersaMark stamped, thermal embossed clear on white card.
I covered the card with Distress stain- lemonade and pewter, dried it well then stamped the musical notes with VersaMark and embossed clear.

Time to crumple. I misted the paper on the back and crumpled and straightened several times till I liked it.
Now for the fun- I added first some more yellows, then black soot, and finally chipped sapphire- all with the blending tool.
Wipe the crow off with a damp cloth,
add Crows-themal embossed silver on velum and start on another!

This card began with the flourished egg stamped in silver. When that was dry, the small crow embossed clear.
Stained the card with persimmon , lemon and mustard, clear embossed the musical notes, blended some  more with sapphire and black soot.

Controlled crumple!
I fan folded the card, ran Picket Fence stain on the folds, more random blending and when dry highlighted with Stardust pen clear.

The crown was stamped on vellum, thermal embossed with Ranger Detail Silver

I want you to see the difference in embossing powders
The one on the left is a random clear, and on the right Ranger detail clear.
VersaFine Onyx on velum

I recommend you make samples and keep them in a journal or on tags. Saves time and materials in the long run, and I think samples are fun!

Comments and questions always welcomed and I'd love to see "what ifs?" you create!
