Thinking Of You - Star Stencil - If I Had A Star

Yogi here today and Suzanne asked us to use older stamps... No problem...  I have ust about all of Suzanne's stamps and love them all... BIG GRIN and I thought I'd combine it with one of Suzanne's stencils..

I'm using an A Way With Words die  "Thinking Of You" 3pce set & "Flourish Frame" 2pce set from Elizabeth Craft Designs, also available on Quietfire Design HERE and HERE

I'm also using a quote stamp from Quietfire Design ("If I Had A Star...")

And as mentioned a stencil "Stars & Butterflies spray" from Elizabeth Craft Designs also available on Quietfire Design HERE

Scored and folded my dark blue toned cardstock to create the easel. Cut another piece, same size as card and adhered to front.

Lay the stencil under a thin piece of cardstock and with the side of a dark blue colored pencil, colored the whole piece. Burnished with a piece of tissue paper, staying clear of the star spray.

Stamped the quote using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed.

With my finger applied a very light coating of Dorland's wax medium (same as Micro Glaze) over my whole background. Burnished that as well, again staying clear of the stars.

Die cut the star frame border (Elizabeth Craft Designs), moving the die to create the size I needed. Adhered to star base and trimmed off the excess.

Adhered to card front.

On the floor: Die cut the "Thinking Of You" from a glossy white thick cardstock. Adhered to floor.

I had the flourished frame already cut in my stash, so trimmed it down to those two side elements. Adhered to floor.

Adhered some white star rhinestones to act as my stopper

If I Had A Star - Sheri Holt, Guest Designer

I am happy to be at Quietfire today sharing a card that was really a happy accident. Let me explain....

I recently received Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks and couldn't wait to play around with them. I just picked some pretty colors that I thought went together and started blending the colors on different types of scrap papers.
After covering the scraps and blending together, I started spritzing them with water and sat back to watch the magic happen. They were TOO PRETTY to waste so I cut my practice pieces to size and added the strip to a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" purple card base to match.

I stamped the sentiment from IfI Had A Star in black ink and simply added some tiny star confetti glitter.

I just hate to waste scraps! Adding a beautiful sentiment like this one is such a great way to turn your scraps into a special gesture for someone. And perfect for mailing.

{Sheri said she thought this card was too simple to use for a guest designer post, but I LOVE it and told her I wanted it!  Sheri can be found on her blog with lots of other awesome cards HERE.  Thanks Sheri!}

If I had a Star....

Hello everyone,
Yvonne here today sharing a card using Quietfire Design stamp "If I had a Star for every time you made me smile"
For this card soft pastel colours were chisen for a feminine touch. Personally I love to combine soft pink with grey.
Since the die-cut is an intricate pattern, no patterned paper is used for this card.

Used materials:

Hoping the quote on this card brings a smile to your face :-)
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Wishing you a great day!

With a hug from Holland,

ECD Friends - Be With Those - When I Made This - HB

Yogi here today... I was a little stumped as to what I wanted to make for my blog post...  and then I decided to make something simpler than my norm...

I'm using an "A Way With Words" dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs ("Friends"), designed by Suzanne Cannon (also available on Quietfire Design HERE).

HINT: If you are having difficulty positioning your die cut word and keeping the vertical parts of the letters from splaying, cut your word die from clear plastic to use the negative as a positioner. Position the clear plastic where you want your word to sit, tape down so it doesn't move, apply glue to your positive die cut and then press it into the clear plastic piece, carefully remove the clear plastic while holding down the letters as you are lifting the plastic from your word. When plastic is removed continue pressing your word to adhere completely.

Also using several other products from Elizabeth Craft Designs "Stitched Rectangles", "Bunch of Flowers", "Lady Bugs" and one of Bianca Petroschi stamps "Robin" (not colored like a robin BIG GRIN...).

I'm also using a new quote stamp & a birthday sentiment stamp as well as a combination of parts to create my own quote... from Quietfire Design  ("Be With Those..."); ("Happy Birthday Plain And Simple" 7 pce set); ("When I Saw This...") & ("If I had a Star..." new version is slightly smaller)

I had this dirty paper towel from cleaning my craft sheet of various watercolors and Color Burst stuff sitting on my table, and I really liked the colors, so separated the 2 layers and adhered one of them on some thin white cardstock with a glue stick. Then die cut several of the "Friends" words as well as the little flowers.

Side folded my white card (5"w x 7"h).
Cut a piece of pale pink pearlescent scrapbook paper and ran through my die cutting machine using the Spellbinders tan mat to emboss the stitching detail of the die without cutting it. Note: placed the die on the back of my scrapbook paper so I would get a textured stitch detail on the front. Inked the quote stamp using Versafine "Vintage Sepia" and then hitting here and there with "Black Soot", stamped and clear embossed. Trimmed it down, making sure my rectangle was centered and adhered to card front.

Adhered my "Friends" words.
Tooled the flowers on a piece of fun foam then adhered 2 layers together and then on to card front. Added a textured light pink jewel to the flower centers.
Die cut the lady bug pieces, colored the black part with a Zig Writer and the yellow part with Winsor and Newton Permanent Marker. Inked the yellow with Versamark and clear embossed. Adhered to front.

On the inside: On a piece of white cardstock, stamped the elements for the quote using a stamp positioner.
First, inked the stamp, masking the word "saw" using the black soot, clear embossed. Masked around the word "made"inked with the black, stamped it on some tracing paper to get my position, reinked the "made" word and stamped onto my quote, clear embossed. Die cut with the stitched rectangles and sponged with a dirty pink sponge.

Die cut the next size up of rectangle from the pearlescent paper and adhered the 2 layers together then on to the card.

Created an eCut file of the Robin stamp (or just fussy cut around it...), cut from white cardstock, stamped with the black and colored with Prisma colored pencils. Adhered to card.

Cut the "Happy Birthday" stamp between the two words, positioned on my acrylic block, inked with the black, stamped and clear embossed.

Hope you enjoyed seeing how I made this card and maybe give some of the hints a try. BIG GRIN

I love making cards that make people smile and the first time I read the text of the stamp I certainly did smile....so hoping I'm bringing you a smile today too....
The card is made by simply layering, using an embossing folder and one set of die templates.

If I Had A Star

Happy Friday Everyone, Terre Fry here with an elegant yet simply card to create using Quietfire Design stamp If I had A Star For Every Time You Made Me Smile. This card was quick and easy but it doesn't look that way.

I used Anna Griffin pattern paper as well as black and white cardstock. I die cut using Spellbinders S4-475 Fleur de Elegance die template, I stamped If I had A Star For Every Time You Made Me Smile using Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then turned my die template over and traced the inside of the die around my stamped sentiment and hand trimmed around it.
I added Want2Scrap Baby Blink Silver Rhinestones to embellish the outer die template. To secure all my pieces in place I used Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry as well as Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L foam squares.

I hope you have enjoyed this simple yet elegant card, please leave a comment and let us know what inspired you from this project and make sure to visit us on Facebook. Crafty Smiles, Terre

If I Had A Star - Guest Designer Diana Nguyen

Hi, I'm Diana and I am so excited to be a guest designer for Quietfire.

Quietfire Designs, Diana Nguyen, stars

I started stamping a little over 3 years ago and I think papercrafting is going to go from "hobby" (which I collect apparently) to "addiction."  One of those other hobbies I have is calligraphy so you can imagine my joy upon discovering Quietfire stamps.  I just love Suzanne's elegant style!  It makes creating a dream!

If I Had a Star

This card was incredibly fun to make.  I think it might be my favorite yet.  As soon as I read this sentiment, I knew I wanted a starry night background.  I sponged different distress inks (Salty Ocean, Broken China, Seedless Preserves, and Dusty Concord) and then splattered it with water that I had mixed in some Perfect Pearls.

Quietfire Designs, Diana Nguyen, stars

For my stars, I covered my card stock with glitter tape before die-cutting and used the same glitter tape to make a mat for my starry night layer.  I embossed my sentiment in white on vellum and strategically placed those stars so I could hide my foam tape to adhere my vellum.

Thank you so much for looking!

{You may find more of Diana's artwork on her blog Yours Truly by Diana!  We're delighted to have changed Diana's status from Guest Designer to full fledged member of the Quietfire Design Team.  Welcome Diana!}

IF I HAD A STAR- CARD & HAMMERED METAL TECHNIQUE

Hi Everyone! Holly here with an old technique, and a bonus 'newer' technique.
The card above shows the 'hammered metal' applied to the fabulous FRAME CUT FILE.

I began by cutting out the frame using black card stock. Silver craft paint was sponged on, and while the card stock was still damp from the paint, the handle end of a paint brush was pressed into it. I placed the frame on a paper pad first, and that gave it a bit of give when pressing in the paint brush handle. This leaves dents in the card stock- the more the better.
Once dry, I attached it to the card layer with the DISTRESS INK sponged background, and IF I HAD A STAR stamped in jet black ARCHIVAL INK. This was attached to the card base, more dots of silver paint were added, and a few sequins were glued on, completing the card.

This card uses washi tape to create a print design behind the beautiful BUTTERFLY.
First, I cut this......

Then, I applied strips of WASHI TAPE.
The washi tape is applied to a butterfly shape, slightly larger than the butterfly and the butterfly cut-out. Once placed behind the embossed cut-out, it will extend past the edges and completely fill the space.

The center (body) of the butterfly was glued down and it's wings folded up a little.
Believe in Yourself from IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN MIRACLES was stamped onto vellum with jet black archival ink and clear embossed.

These cards are so simple, and the beautiful stamps and cut files make them a pleasure to create.

I hope you enjoyed these projects today, and try them yourself using the great products from Quietfire Design.

If I Had A Star Grunge Card

Hello All!  Kathy Jo here to share a grunge card I made using Quietfire's If I Had A Star stamp.  Isn't it a heart warming sentiment?

The base was made from black card stock, Authentique's Pride paper was distressed and adhered as shown.  A piece of corrugated board was cut to size and distressed.  If I Had A Star was stamped on ivory card stock die cut (Spellbinders' Decorative Labels Thirty Four and Spellbinders Tool n' One) and distressed.  A scrap piece of cork was die cut using Spellbinders' Stars die and while the cork was still in the die, Distress Ink in Fired Brick was applied.
The inside is another ivory star die cut distressed and applied on another sheet of the Pride paper.
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great Thursday!

IF I HAD A STAR- CARD

Hi Everyone! Holly here, with a technique I first learned back in the early 90's.
It's called Faux Copper Enamel, and it was presented on Aleene's Creative Living show. How's that for a blast from the past?
There's a long drying time for this one, so you need to be a day ahead of when you want to use it.
Here's what I did~

Using SPELLBINDERS NESTIBILITIES STARS die set, I cut two each of three different sized stars, then glued each pair together. This made them a little sturdier, then I placed them on a craft stick with double-sided tape wrapped around them. This gave me something to hang on to.

Onto waxed paper, I poured out puddles of ALEENE'S TACKY GLUE , then added a drop or two of acrylic craft paint, then stirred them together. The white also requires white paint, or it will dry clear.

Using the same toothpick that it was mixed with, I applied the white glue/paint mix to the star, covering the whole surface. Then, added blue glue/paint mix here and there.

Then I pushed and pulled the glue/paint mix around using a pin, cleaning off the tip between pulls. If there wasn't enough mixture on the star, to fill in the trough left by the pin, I simply added more of the white or blue glue/paint mix. It only took tiny amounts to fill in, then I swirled through with the pin again, stopping when I was pleased with the look.

I did the same with the two remaining stars, changing to a different colour of blue, for each one. Once I finished the three stars, I set them aside to dry. These took about eight hours. Drying times will vary with different conditions, such as the size of each piece, and the humidity. Once dry, I brushed on a thick layer of  DIAMOND GLAZE, and again, set them aside to dry.

This shows the beautiful design.

Before attaching to the card, I used a silver marker on the edge. The double layer of card stock helped give enough surface to draw the pen along.

To complete this card, I embossed a blue card stock mat using SPELLBINDERS M-BOSSABILITIES and glued it to the white card base. I stamped IF I HAD A STAR with JET BLACK ARCHIVAL INK, onto white card stock, then die-cut around it using SPELLBINDERS MARVELOUS SQUARES. I used the next size up die from the same set, to cut out the navy card stock mat. These were layered, then attached to the card. The faux enamel stars were added using foam squares.

I hope you try this technique, but I warn you- it's addicting!
Thank you for stopping by today and Happy April!

If i had a star...

Hi Everyone it's me Teresa and i am sharing a painted project
today that i did with something i found while cleaning up
in my garage a few weeks back.  I used to do alot of
decorative painting and had lots of leftover things so when
i found this star box i new it would be perfect to put my
sentiment on.  I used #5970 "If I had a star" and i really like
the way it came out using the wood and paper together.

To make this project i first sanded my box really well
and then painted it white. Then i sanded it again and then
painted the outsides with Antique Gold (Deco Art-Americana)
and let it all dry really well.  Next i traced around the box
with a piece of paper and cut it down to make a pattern
for the yellow dotted paper which i cut out.  To adhere it
to the box i used my favorite "Perfect Paper Adhesive" and
let that dry completly. Don't forget to push out all the bubbles
under the paper as it is drying so it will be flat and nice.

And then i stamped my beautiful sentiment on yellow
printed paper to match with Vintage Sepia Versafine ink
and embossed it with clear.  I used a Spellbinders Standard
Circles Large die to cut it out and did another layer with the
Scalloped Circles to put under it to make it stand out more.

And then i glued it on with 3D foam dots and added some
pretty flowers and now i can fill it with goodies to give
to someone special that i have in mind.

Mixing papers and wood is really fun and you can create
some beautiful gifts--- so have fun, be creative with it and get
out all those Quietfire stamps you have and have a go at it....
